Preventing jumping off bed. Solutions needed.

Little dog has been diagnosed with spinal issues and is no longer allowed to jump on/off sofas and beds. She sleeps with me and will continue to need to do so as she has medical issues that mean continual checking through the night. By which I mean she actually has to sleep next to me on the bed.

Currently I have my mattress on the floor as a short term solution but my own back is beginning to hurt from this!

So I think my options are, bed rails and a ramp. Or a raised bedside dog bed with an integral ramp. But do I need rails all the way round or just on “her” side? Am I missing an easy solution here (and like I said her sleeping somewhere else won’t work)

Also what the heck do people do re. sofas? I can get a ramp for the main sofa but what about the other furniture? She used to jump onto everything. I will of course try and train her but I’m not sure I can ever trust her not to jump up. Plus, old house, steps everywhere inside and in garden do I have to gate every step?

Any help gratefully received.

I've got a set of steps for DDog to get on and off the bed - the frame is a bit high, and DDog has a poorly constructed 'Queen Anne' set of front legs, so I'm mainly trying to guard against future issues.

Much to my surprise, he took to the steps like a duck to water, and now uses them all the time, even when jumping on / off would provide a marginally shorter route. You may be pleasantly surprised and find that bed rails aren't necessary.

Can the dog sleep in a cot-type bed next to your bed? Surely they don't actually have to be in your bed all night?
