Getting a kitten when you have a terrier

So we had 2 established DCat s and then took on a JRT that had previously lived with cats.

DDog is fine with static cats out and about but if they run he will chase - tbf he is the same with other dogs.

Obviously we never leave the DCat and DDog alone in the house together and would crate him etc.

We have tragically lost one cat so if we get another it would have to be a kitten. I guess I think either JRT will treat it as her puppy or it could be a disaster and be jealous of kitten or wound up by kitten play.

Experiences please!

We have sight hounds and a dkitten. Have kept them apart until dkitten has a bit more clout behind her claws! Current dcat keeps them in their place no issue..

It was a sight hound that killed our beloved boy today, can you ever really trust a dog with cats 😢

We have our dcat for nearly 9 years, ddogs for nearly 8 and 4 years. So sorry about your dcat op..

Sorry about your cat.
Until last year when the last one died I’ve always had cats along with my tribe of terriers. Without exception the cats have ruled the roost, making quite sure the dog’s knew exactly who was boss. Didn’t matter how old the cats were when they arrived, some adopted as adults, some as kittens, four turning up as tiny kittens at the bottom of the garden, walking through the apple trees that were in blossom. Couldn’t have made a more chocolate boxy scene. They must have been dumped.
One of the cats used to lie in wait just inside the back door to give each terrier a hefty swipe with her front paw as they trooped in from the garden.
