To discover dog is just mimicking his limp GrinGrin

link

Reminds me of the time I was walking my two on the river bank.

Madam stood on a nettle and it must have really irritated her foot as she started to limp. We picked her up and she kept wanting to sit down and lick it

As soon as we picked up madam...little shit started limping with the exact same foot.

She just wanted carrying Grin

One of my old cats now deceased used to regularly pretend to be ill to get treats. He,d hold his paw up and act all pathetic. He was hilarious. As soon as he got the treat he would miraculously recover.

OhNoIHaveToExercise · 19/01/2021 11:54

This story is so sweet, both the dog limping in sympathy and his Dad taking him straight to the vet and getting him checked out. They must have a special bond.

CMOTDibbler · 19/01/2021 11:55

Ddog1 (salukish lurcher) will hurt his paw/leg slightly, limp outrageously and then forget which leg it is that hurt and limp on another.
But that story is very timely as DH is going to be spending 6 weeks on crutches and I think ddog1 might give it a go.

My grandparents had a dog where my dad would convince him that he had a poorly foot
The dog would start limping and acting like a true man about it
It would all be forgotten when the lady from down the road came round with a treat bag for him
My dad really misses that dog

I swear my dog fake cries when he knows he’s done something he shouldn’t have been. He’s a chi, so has big eyes, and they instantly water if dh gives him a stern look. It’s hilarious. No wonder he’s babied so much - I can’t stand to see him sad!

raspberrysundaes · 19/01/2021 13:58

Mine has had me at the vets twice with a fake limp Grin the second time I was really worried as he wouldn't weight bear - of course when we got to the vet and they got me to walk him up/down to see, he was absolutely fine and walked as normal Hmm

When he does it now, I just look at him and say "stop fake limping!" - gets me some weird looks when we're out and about!

BachelorDog · 19/01/2021 14:11

I met a Rottie once who'd recently had a paw op - it was bandaged up. I made such a fuss of her, because she was such an incredible softie.

I then saw her again several months later, when the paw was all healed. The first thing she did was start to limp and then offered me her (once poorly) paw! Grin

This year Ddog has cost me £1600. It was just as lockdown was easing her hips were troubling her. Yelping when she moved, refusing to jump run play. Vet did extensive tests x rays medicines the lot. Anyway 3 weeks in she was clipped, and freshened up and had an instant miraculous recovery... There weren't knots or mats or anything so the little madam cost me £1600 because she wanted a haircut Confused

AriesTheRam · 19/01/2021 14:19

@2ndMrsDeWinter my chi "cries" to have us put the fire on for him.

2ndMrsdeWinter · 19/01/2021 14:58

@AriesTheRam haha - that’s so boujee! To be honest, mine also loves the fireplace and is the first to hog the heat when we load the fire up with logs. Such little characters!

A horse at the rising school I learned at was lame every single Saturday. It knew when the busy days were and used to be practically on 3 legs being lead out of the stable. Although the yard owner knew he was faking it, they still couldn't use him! He only ever worked a 4 day week (Monday was a day off for all the horses after the weekend) and was always fine by Tuesday!

Look at that little sweetheart @AriesTheRam

@Soubriquet they’re such sensitive little things. Mine makes me laugh every day with his quirks and mannerisms. He’s so human it’s frightening!

BiteyShark · 19/01/2021 18:17

Love this.

Mine once injured one part of his body. A dressing was put on a different part which wasn't the bit that was actually injured (long story) and he then acted like it was healed. Placebo effect clearly works for dogs Grin

StillMedusa · 20/01/2021 00:57

My Gran had a cat who was hit by a car and casted for a broken leg. He used to sit on the front garden and get major attention and sympathy as a result.
He healed perfectly but would limp dramatically if anyone came past Grin

I bet he'd change his tune if you got the travel basket out though!
