Help - dog weeing on our bed!

Our first dog has always slept with us on the bed. This was fine and she would be trusted. 18 months into having her, we got another dog and moved house all on the same day. She then weed on the bed once. Then they got used to each other, I put it down to territory marking and hoped it was the end.

Now my parents are staying with us for a few months of lockdown and have brought our family dog. Our first dog is so territorial, ie if my family dog comes into the study where her and second dog are, she will bark aggressively and go towards the family dog (but never actually attack).

Three times now since October she has weed the bed. This time, tonight, is 2 days after the brand new sheets were put on and whilst I was in the shower. She’s been on the bed and fine before.

What can I do?!

Always close the door? Stairgate at the top of the stairs?

Helpthedogout · 12/01/2021 18:50

@MummaBear4321 it’s still her bed so she does need access at times. Is the only way preventing even entering the room?!

...and that would be the last time DDog slept on my bed! Unless she has a urinary infection, then I would be purchasing a doggy bed for her to sleep it. I wouldn’t be letting her on the bed AT ALL!

I’ve got a Labrador so if he wet the bed, literally it’d go through to the mattress!

MummaBear4321 · 12/01/2021 19:00

Sorry but its your bed. I would personally be taking this as a sign that she needs her own bed, preferably not in your room. She thinks she is the alpha, and in reality you should be. I think you should consider moving her to another room and giving her her own bed.

This is very very sad news. I love her sleeping with us.

Or get a double sided waterproof blanket/sheet for the bed, fleece one side and plastic the other.
I’d get a waterproof mattress cover too, just in case!

Vet check first to rule out any illness. How old is she? Is she spayed?

If health is ok then she sounds stressed.
So adaptil collar (may work) may not
Do not let her on the bed on her own
I guess she has not weed on it when you are with her on the bed?
Give her a safe den space she can go to away from the other dog - let her choose the location for this.
Send your parents and dog home (only kidding Smile) Keep your dog away from parents dogs.
Keep parents dogs out of your room always re the scent from parents dogs is not in your room

OK thanks @PollyRoulson
It’s definitely marking as it’s not a normal amount of wee, it usually goes through the bed to the mattress protector so no harm.

Never when we have been present. Only 5 times now in 2.5 years. She’s 2 and a half, spayed, healthy. I can tell she is stressed.
I’m going to just shut the door and lock her out
She has a safe space (the most lovely donut bed she loves) in the study where she usually is.

Your poor dog is extremely stressed. Perhaps your parents need to go home with their dog.

Helpthedogout · 12/01/2021 21:44

@Aquamarine1029 it’s not possible for my parents to go home. Family dog is 14, not long left, harmless. My dog is extremely jealous, extremely possessive. She is similarly aggressive if a woman comes near my DP or vice versa
