Dog seatbelts

Hi I can't search at the mo so apologies if this is a done to death subject.

Can anyone recommend a good, safe seatbelt for a large puppy please? She normally travels in a crate in my car but she may need to go in DH's sometimes, however he doesn't really have boot or full back seat space. Maybe 1 backseat but more likely front seat. We are wondering if one of those seatbelt harnesses would be ok. Puppy is a big 6 month old, very strong 20kg Lab, can be very excitable and curious like all puppies can be, however in the car boot crate she will usually just lie down and sleep. Obviously if she went in the front she might be more curious and we want to be sure it's actually safe for both dog and driver. I've looked online but the images all seem to be smaller dogs or tiny puppies. Would one of those seatbelt or box types be suitable for our girl or will we need to stick to crates and work around the car issue? Thanks if anyone can advise.

I have a beagle - he's around 18kg and uses a doggy seatbelt. I got one from Pets at Home and he wears it with his harness - it's a Ruffwear one. I don't believe there are many crash tested harnesses out there and the ones that do exist aren't cheap.

We have waterproof covers on the backseat and he just sits or lies down there. You'll need to make sure the seatbelt is long enough for him to move/sit comfortably but not so long that he can get into the front seat. You can get covers that are like a hammock which gives you a bit of extra protection.

I wouldn't bother with a box - labs are far too big and she needs to be able to sit and move around comfortably in the back. The boxes are more for small puppies and breeds under about 5-6kg imo. They're just not suitable for big dogs Grin

I have a harness that clips into the seatbelt. 25kg Springer. On the front seat he lies down with his head on the middle bit.

I also have a ruffwear harness one - called the Load Up. As vanilla said, I found very few crash tested ones to choose from. The ruffwear one is very good, appears comfortable enough for our Lurcher to wear on long journeys. There is a loop on it where you put the seatbelt through. She also walks in it fine if we stop half way somewhere.
I don't know if I would have my dog in the front - sometimes she stands up to look out - I think she would end up just doing this all the time if in the front! She doesn't have a full back seat either but there is enough room with the half she has - depends how big your puppy is!

I have one that clips onto the isofix hook behind the seat (for baby car seats). It's really super secure plus means you don't have to unclip it if you carry a human instead

Thanks everyone, I'll have a look at your suggestions!
