Lurcher moulting excessively? How to reduce this?

We have had our lurcher ( smooth, short hair) for just under a year. The house has no carpets at all on the ground floor, and in the last 2-3 weeks, she’s losing tons of hair (more so than in summer). I’m talking about 6 to 8 dustpans full every day. Is this normal? And do you have any tips for how to reduce this? I’ve tried with a deshedding comb, but she’ll only allow about 10 minutes of this at a time, and frankly, it doesn’t seem to help! I mean, it gets loads of hair off her, but it doesn’t seem to make any difference.
I would get her groomed, but we are in tier 4, so dog groomers aren’t allowed to operate atm.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Dog groomers are working in tier 4 , they are allowed to for welfare reasons .

Ten minutes a day, every day, with a Zoom Groom or similar rubbery curry-comb type brush will help; I do it outside and make sure I'm standing upwind!

A biotin supplement may help, and fish oil supplements are also available.

The stimulus to moult comes more from changes in light levels rather than solely from the temperature dropping or rising, but if you've amped up your central heating recently in response to the colder weather, the dry heat might encourage shedding.

@Floralnomad, oh - in that case ours must have decided not to work, as they told me they are unable to help because of Tier 4 restrictions! I will try to find another that’s open tomorrow - Thank you.

Apparently when they were closed during the original lockdown lots of dogs got matted etc . The actual wording does say grooming for welfare reasons but ours was happy to do mine .

A couple of things stand out...

  1. A robotic vacuum. For lots of dog hair on hard floors, this is a life saver.
  1. Excessive moulting can sometimes be a sign of allergies or intolerances, especially to food. Maybe not the case for you, but thought I'd mention it just in case.

I would say it is because of more heating on in the home?
Lurchers - smooth haired - do moult quite a lot. My house is always in need of a sweep/hoover - you just have to get used to it :)

Oh and I recommend one of the rechargable wand type vacuums if you don't have one - so easy to whip out and round!

Thanks everyone! We managed to get her booked in for Saturday🙌🏻After that I’ll give the daily deshedding a go!
