I just wondered as ours is completely perfect and I’ve loved the only other two I’ve known too!! I really wish I could meet more of this wonderful breed and would love to hear about others’ character and quirks .

Ours is very sporty and plunges through waves after sticks like an otter !
Makes me laugh when communicates as now and again has learnt to growl at the bathroom sink when wants to be picked up for a drink of WARM water (heaven forbid drinking it cold every time !)
Undemanding though and happy being on a lap or travelling all day , though would also walk all day if invited to
Very friendly - delays our postman most days as climbs into her arms
Extremely fast and fit (beats my friend’s bigger cocker spaniel) Which I didn’t expect
Talkative
Very good with free roaming chickens and small pets and learning new things like this . Hopeless with cats still though as hadn’t had exposure to learn from !

@tara336 our son has a cavachon. A cute/naughty white ball of fluff. Loves everyone except that pesky postman.
But if he sees him outside during his walk loves him too. Every dog owner knows his name.
At first if he could escape he would do and was always found in the garden of his doggie mate who lives around the corner.
We have him while son and family are at work. Now even our neighbours know him.

JacobReesMogadishu that is priceless, I would love to see your dog at 4 o’clock and that really made me laugh!

Prices seem too high for all breeds and I’m sure is contributing to the rise in theft. I would expect to pay £1-£1.5K for a properly health tested cavalier but that may well no longer be the going price.

Grooming wise, ours doesn’t need a great deal and I find it’s mostly ears which are easy to do. I did see a much hairier cavalier this week (ours isn’t groomed though I trim her paws and sometimes her ears to keep them clean) so maybe it varies.

We have a cavalier and love her to bits. We got her from a rescue at age 4 and we’re lucky that she’s been v healthy.
But I agree with PP that it’s not really right to keep breeding them due to the prevalence of heart and neurological problems. It’s sad because they are such lovely dogs - perhaps the answer long term is to cross the healthiest cavs with other small spaniel breeds?

@2fallsagain thank you, it’s been a very fast learning curve! The vet says it’s just one of those things unfortunately. DDog is doing well so far and getting used to his injections

Tara336 · 28/12/2020 18:52

@Noidea2114 they really are a lovely cross, mine was a devil for escaping when he was a puppy, thank fully he is over it now. DDog has the cavalier colouring and coat unless he gets wet then he channels his inner bichon and turns into a fluff ball
