Removing dirt from armpit

I have a cavachon who is just a dirt magnet, particularly his armpits which quickly become matted with mud.

Not sure the photo shows it clearly, but he has very fine hair.

How is the best way to remove this? He gets brushed with a slicker brush and tolerates this everywhere else but here it is obviously very sensitive.

I rinse my cocker with water with a shower attachment after every muddy walk. It's a pain because then you have a slightly damp dog for a bit but I find it's the only way to keep him clean.

That is what we have been using, power wash him down but these stubborn bits remain.

Would leave in conditioner (I am even considering my argan oil help?

I wouldn't use any human products without checking with a professional - dogs have very sensitive skin and you wouldn't want to make it worse.

Does he go to a groomer? They could probably recommend a product or technique to use.

When my working springer spaniel had this problem, I used curved scissors to trim the long hair away. They aren't the standard groomers' curved scissors, but shorter blades with rounded ends, so you don't poke or cut the skin. Mine came from Mole Valley Farmers; I think they are what shepherds use to trim the mucky behinds of sheep...!

Thanks, I will have a look for them.

I think the fine hairs are pulling a bit so a bit tight, which is why he hates us trying to untangle them.

I invested in a mud daddy. I fill it with warm water and a bit of dog shampoo. They are a must this weather.

That mud daddy thing, terrible name, but what a great idea! OP I wonder if this is something you bench until after the next grooming and then use a mud daddy type contraption from then on?

I dip my dogs legs in a plastic jug of water water in the sink after each winter walk.
Any matts in her fur just get cut off, I CBA trying to brush them out this time of year and it's stress free for my dog then
