I took in a dog who had been used for breeding then they didn’t want her she last gave birth in august

Recently she’s developed a rash I’ve changed her food to allergy food in case it was that. I’ve put sudocrem and dog tea tree oil to try relieve her rash. Every opportunity she gets she is rubbing on the floor.

Does anyone have any advice on what to do now?

I’d take her to the vet to get checked properly.

AmIpg · 18/12/2020 08:43

Vet?

PolloDePrimavera · 18/12/2020 08:43

Vet but maybe also piriton?

NoSquirrels · 18/12/2020 08:44

You need to get her seen by a vet.

AwkwardPaws27 · 18/12/2020 08:44

She needs to see a vet.

Mycircusmymonkey · 18/12/2020 08:44

She needs to see a vet? Don’t keep putting things in it you could be making it worse!

Frlrlrubert · 18/12/2020 08:46

Not an expert by that discoloured nipple doesn't look right to me either, could it be that that's itchy and she's taking it out on other parts of herself? The rash itself does look sore, I'd probably get a vet check.

RoseDog · 18/12/2020 08:48

She could just be an itchy dog, is she a bull breed?

The vet can give medication to stop her itching and you can also give piriton, but ask your vet.

There are also some shampoos that help.

BLKS7 · 18/12/2020 08:49

I have phoned a vet hospital this morning for her they can't take new dogs in at the minute, waiting for my local vets to open this morning will defo be phoning them just seeing if anyone had any experience with this and could indicate what it could be

My staffie is the same but much worse in the summer, we use piriton and when it gets bad apoquel but only use that sparingly as it's not good for dogs long term.

We also use cooper and Gracie itchy dog shampoo and that works wonders.

I wonder if it could be mastitis?

Mochudubh · 18/12/2020 09:23

Does she smell? We had a rescue dog that used to rub all the time and she smelt really bad. It turned out she had a skin infection and needed tablets and a special shampoo from the vet but it cleared up really quickly after that.

No she doesn't smell bad she does have a habit off constantly licking her self especially her paws it just seems to be spreading all over her now whatever it is xx

Give her some piriton

You can work out the dosage online.

BloodyCreateUsername · 18/12/2020 09:43

Looks like potential mastitis to me.

Do you know much about her background?

If they’ve lived outside they can struggle in houses with central heating.

Could also be a stress reaction from being away from pups and familiarity. I’d stop trying to treat it until you’ve seen a vet who can guide you properly.

Not sure if it’s just the pictures but she looks quite slight.

I’ve had 3 French bulldog rescues now all used as breeding bitches so do drop a PM if you need anything and I can try to help.

picklemewalnuts · 18/12/2020 09:47

Tea tree oil is very bad for dogs, if I remember correctly.

Piriton, yes. Distract her when she's licking- give her a king or similar.

Try raw feeding, it's the fastest way to identify allergies.
