Dog seems weird?

Has anyone ever experienced their dog just seeming a bit...weird? One of mine has been fine all day, but this evening taken to sleeping in a couple of odd places. Not his usual spots and kind of out of the way.

He ate and has been drinking as normal but I found him sleeping against a wall at one point and by our door at another (doesn't need out). It kind of feels like he's out of sorts but I have no idea why.

Anyone experienced similar?

Have yu got a new scented candle / plug in / diff perfume on ? I always made my old dog act a bit out of sorts until I figured out what it was.
Or have you got your heating on a bit higher than normal so Ddog is looking for somewhere a little cooler to lie

I do have two new candles, but haven't lit them yet. They're getting put outside just in case

He's now sleeping in his crate (unheard of - he usually only pops in during the day) so he's definitely not feeling well. I can't really take him to the vet because he's sleeping in odd places, and 3 candles and two mini planters from tesco are now spending the night in the garden Grin so I suppose we'll just need to keep an eye on him and hope he perks up tomorrow

It may be worth discussing with your vet actually. Dogs are stoic and hide pain and discomfort well, so a change in behaviour might indicate something amiss. Its difficult because the vet can do a head to toe exam and run bloods and if money were no object then great but it may be worth monitoring before spending £££ on something and nothing.

Sorry, thats probably not helpful.

How old is your dog? What breed? Any recent changes in routine?

Hopfully that will sort him out , plus some fresh air for him too.
Is there any chance he has picked up some tasty morsel while you have been walking him? or swallowed a bit of a toy ?

Keep A eye on him over night but I would ring the vets in the morning if he is no better , better to be safe than sorry .

Could it be the heating as well? Maybe take him to the garden for a bit of fresh air? Hope he's feeling ok soon, and your mind will be at ease too!

Thanks for all suggestions. He's a 5 year old terrier, so an adult dog but not really an old man. I think if he doesn't brighten up for his morning walk I'll call the vet - hidden discomfort was what was worrying me.

He's not much of a scavenger so I doubt he's nabbed anything while walking, but you never know. It has been quite cold, so the heating has been on more than usual.

Im just giving him his space tonight, plenty of fresh water and I'm lucky enough that my day is free-ish tomorrow if I need to take him for a once over. I'll update in the mornings with how he is.

Our dog was a bit like this the other week. When we checked him over we saw the inside of one ear was red, turned out it was an ear infection. He's had drops and right as rain now. He wasn't scratching or fussing at his ear, just a bit oddly behaved.

Dogs must have off days like us, would be easier if they could talk and tell us though! Am sure he'll be fine tomorrow, keep us updated.

He's a lot broghter today Grin I walked him separately from our other dog so I could watch him more closely. Toileting as normal and his jaunty trott is back.

I've checked his ears (good shout) and will keep an eye but for now he seems back to himself. Thank you all for responding, I really needed that reassurance

Good news 👍. My 12 year old border terrier has off days, I always over worry and the next day he's back to his usual self acting like a 3 year old!!

That's great news, he must of just had a off day .
