Help. Poorly dog

Can anyone offer some advice? Our little (5kg) JRT is vomiting. The last thing she ate was last night, chicken breast - an attempt to get her to eat - and it was on the floor this morning. She’s not interested in food and seems listless - unsurprising as she’s had no real food for a couple of days.

Is there anything we can do before making a vets appointment? I’m very happy to take her but I think they see me as an over anxious dog owner already and it would be good just to get some food down her.

Just withhold food as she can’t keep it down but make sure she drinks, though not too much at once. Just put half a cupful of water in her bowl at a time or some ice cubes to lick.
She really does need to see the vet tomorrow. At such a weight, my little Yorkie weighs just under 3 kg, & the weight drops off them so rapidly. They can’t afford to lose it . Are there any other symptoms? How old is she?

@vinyldetective
I strongly suggest you ring your local vet for advice. They are the best to answer any such questions.
Anyone else, should refrain from giving advice unless they are vet professionals.

I’d see the vet ASAP, stop trying to get the dog to eat and just leave water down. I hope your dog is ok.

Op has she been spayed? (Nasty womb infection can be very serious if not.) Please see the vet ASAP.

To answer your questions- - she’s 16 months and hasn’t been spayed. Got it. Vet tomorrow.

Oh and I forgot my manners - thank you all very much.

That’s the best thing. Vomiting can be a symptom of so many things from nothing to really worry about to something more serious, most likely isn’t so try not to worry. It’s dehydration & losing weight in one so small that’s the problem so needs looking into.

Agree she needs to be seen due to her size it's more of a risk than a bigger dog, plus you as you have no idea why she's being sick that does need to be investigated too. It's gone on quite long for it to just be something she's eaten thats disagreed with her.

Darklane · 09/12/2020 22:30

Did you go to the vet?
What did they say?

VinylDetective · 09/12/2020 22:40

Oh, thank you for asking.

I got up this morning and she launched herself at me the minute she saw me. She’d eaten the dry food that had been down overnight and asked for more. She’s eaten well today and kept it down and is as bright as a button, right back to her usual self.

I’m so relieved. I swear I worry far more about her than I ever did my babies!

Oh, that is good news, thank you for posting.
Just a bit of an upset tummy then. If it’s any help, I always keep a tube of Promax or similar in the cupboard & give a dose at the first sign of any digestive problem. You can buy it online at any of the animal pharmacy sites like VetUK, Viovet, Petmeds etc, no prescription needed.
In fact VetUK do their own version which I usually buy now, just as good & cheaper.
