Dogs digging in parks

Am I right in thinking that owners should not let their dogs dig up the ground in public parks if they can help it? Like, on the beach is one thing but not in park which is kept very well maintained all year round for everyone to enjoy, not just a dog-only park.

Agree - if you mean the kind of park which has proper planting.

If it's more of a big field - which is already muddy and scarred from footie at this time of year - then I don't think dogs will be making any difference whatsoever

I don't think it's a good idea. If it's in an already flattish field then people could break their ankles finding a random unexpected hole.

I don't like it when dogs dig in parks, I've lost count of how many times I've hurt my ankle by tripping in them.

Mine likes digging for roots when it's been raining and I'm constantly having to stop her.

Mine is allowed to dig in mole hills (I figure the damage is already done), and I fill any hole made back in afterwards. He's also allowed to dig in woodland where the terrain is already rough.

He's most definitely, however, not allowed to dig up grass!

I was thinking about what my DDog does - scrabble around on interesting mud and scratch it up a bit (and lick it). She's never produced anything approaching a hole! It's less wear and tear than a churned up goalmouth by a considerable amount. Actual holes are a hazard and not fair to other users

Yeah I figured digging just in mud is okay, but this one was digging up great clods of grass, not a football field either but a landscaped park.

I only let my dog dig on the beach.

But I do walk a lot of dogs who'll pee, and then kick grass and dirt over their scent - a bit like a cat Grin There's really nothing I can do to stop them short of lifting them up every single time they pee!

Yeah that's really not OK Confused
