Phantom pregnancy?

I’m pretty sure my 20 month old springer is having a phantom pregnancy

She’s clingy as hell, can’t even go to the loo without her following me and crying outside the bathroom door, carting a toy around everywhere and licking it to death, digging at the carpets/corners of rooms and trying to build nests out of everything soft she can lay her paws on.

I’ve only ever had boys before so this is all new to me.

She was 11 months old before she had her first season in February. Was booked to be spayed in May but lockdown. Didn’t have her 2nd season until middle of September. She’s booked to be spayed on December 9th.

Will the vet delay the spay? Is there anything we can do to help her?

She suffered badly with both seasons, plus she was very randy so I really don’t want to miss this season for spaying.

Thanks!

One of our dogs had a phantom pregnancy. It was awful. She whined constantly, very clingy and carried her 'baby' everywhere.
Vet gave her medication to dry up her milk. I'm sure we went back to the vet a week or so later as she was still suffering but can't remember what he gave me (this was years ago). She was spayed once it was over.

Ours had a split season which even the vet had never seen but she had two seasons within weeks of each other and was booked in to be spayed, but producing milk? Gave her meds to stop the milk but Liver function wasn't quite right so had to wait until her next season, now finally sorted

My 9yo boy springer has similar behaviour to yours OP, so???!! 🤷‍♀️ Maybe it's a springer thing!! 🐶

Vet told us to watch out for her producing milk and bring her in if she did. But otherwise just be nice to her.

I think it might delay spaying as they said we had to let her hormones settle down again before spaying.

Ours had an awful first season and wasn’t happy in her phantom pregnancy so we are keen to have her spayed.

Thanks.

There doesn’t seem to be any milk production. Thinking about it her bits and her nipples were a little swollen last week but they’ve gone back down now.

She has been off her food the last couple of days but was keen for breakfast this morning.

I came down this morning to find she’d dragged all the cushions behind the sofa. Today’s ‘baby’ is a severed leg toy which is nice Grin

I’ll give the vet a ring on Monday. She’s very clingy and whiney today so we’re snuggling on the sofa with her severed leg

Her seasons have been a bit irregular and she had a horrible time so I’m a bit nervous about missing the window for this season so fingers crossed she settles down soon
