Travelling to pick up dog

Hello all,
My partner and I are supposed to be picking our puppy up next week. Before anyone asks, we would have loved to have homed a rescue, and did look into it first, but no shelters near us would let us as we have young children.
Its just been announced that our area will be a Tier 2 area from next week. Is it OK to travel to another Tier 2 area 2 hours away to pick the puppy up? We're not planning on stopping anywhere (except for toilet breaks if needed) and will be doing all the transferring of puppy and various bits outside with masks on. My partner doesn't see that its going to be a problem, but I'm quite anxious about it. Any advice would be appreciated.

I got a rescue dkitten last week end. Ten mins from my house.. Better for the dkitten to be all settled in her forever home than one of multiples is a foster home..
Imo...

I don't see any issue. You aren't mixing inside and can socially distance outside.

There is nothing listed in the tier 2 guidance that you would be violating.

I went to visit a breeder last week, we all had masks on and kept our distance as per government guidance.

Can't see an issue. Enjoy your new puppy ❤️

Isn't it slightly ridiculous that a load of strangers have made me feel better when my DP couldn't Grin
Thanks everyone. The breeder we're getting him from is considered vulnerable, so we were always going to be very careful anyway. He's already nearly 11 weeks and we don't want to miss any teaching windows for him, so would rather get him next week and get on with it!

I stayed on the doorstep. Maybe not an option for you if you want to see dpuppy and dm together - as you should. Mask and hand gel before and after you enter the house..
We got a dpuppy just before lockdown. Beware lack of classes right now may have long term implications..

Some trainers are still doing at least 1:1 and you can get your puppy out into open spaces to at least see other dogs. Not all dogs like puppies so be a bit cautious. The most important thing is that your puppy sees loads of other dogs - he doesn't have to play with them.

Kennel Club guidance is that, if the breeders are unable to bring the pup to you and it is reasonably necessary for the pup’s welfare, new owners can collect their puppies by appointment only.

Here’s the guidance.

I’d say if the breeder is clinically vulnerable, so can’t bring him/her to you and the pup is of an age where it needs to be in it’s new home for socialisation etc, you should be ok to do it.

‘If you live in a tier 2 area, you must continue to follow tier 2 rules when you travel to a tier 1 area. Avoid travel to or overnight stays in tier 3 areas other than where necessary, such as for work, education, youth services, to receive medical treatment, or because of caring responsibilities. You can travel through a tier 3 area as a part of a longer journey’

So yes you can travel to a tier 2 area but you cannot mix indoors.
