Morning all!

Ok so we have a 3 month old lurcher who is just lovely. He is pretty much housetrained already, sleeps really well through the night and gets on so well with our older dog. Icing on the cake is that he also tidies our shoes up, placing them neatly in the garden so we always know where they are!

However I'm sure he's part siamese cat. He is really vocal and whines when he wants everything. Wouldn't surprise me if he started talking soon. I don't mind this as he is a baby still (despite the fact that he is growing like a weed). We know he settles if we are all out (only happens for max 30 mins at school drop off time) as we have a camera to check on them. But in the mornings when I am first up he won't let me do anything. So it's like needing attention when we are in the house but fine when we are not!

This morning I tried to go for a shower. He came up and cried outside the door so I gave up. Tried to go to the toilet, he came up, I had to go so brought him into the bathroom with me so he then cried to go out.

I would leave him but he is so loud and there are still people sleeping and I am up at 6am. They way our house is designed, if I put up a stairgate the sound would funnel up the stairs anyway.

Prepared to be patient and adapt while we resolve this but I don't really know where to start with this one!

Have to just ignore it, hard but the only way its the dog training its family

PollyRoulson · 23/11/2020 09:06

I would scatter treats outside the door when you have a shower or go to the loo. You can use his daily food allowance. Shows him that good things happen when you are not in sight. Overtime he wil then get more confident

Without a pic I doubt you even have a gorgeous lurcher op...

I have 2!!

Tbh I would just be grateful that he's sleeping through the night. (puppy sleep deprived here). I would just ignore the whining. If you are waking others in the household up they can look after him while you shower.

Thank you all for responding! I don't like to complain as he is so good at night, totally crazy during the day mind!

Think you are right he is trying to dictate. He will just have to moan, and they will have to deal with it!

Personally I would carry on with what you’re doing but leave doors open. He is worried about missing out. He will stop when he figures out it’s not all that exciting.
Where does he sleep? Is he crated?

Santaisironingwrappingpaper · 23/11/2020 16:28

Our ddogs are a month apart. There was no whining whatsoever!!
My 3 pointy hounds now..

Don't leave him to whine. If he wants to follow you, let him. I would gradually start closing the door little increments if you'd rather have peace in the bathroom.

You need to teach him to be quiet. I trained mine to know what Shhh means.

Erinepalmer · 25/11/2020 07:43

I think you should sometimes playing with your dog. I prefer frisbee for this.

Santaisironingwrappingpaper · 25/11/2020 09:25
