St Bernard breed

Looking into buying a St Bernard puppy next year. Off to visit a breeder at some point in near future when it's safe to do so with Covid 19 restrictions. Been to see a breeder in September and her dogs were amazing, fantastic temperaments. We all got on great. DC loved the dogs.

Pros/cons to the breed for those who already have a St Bernard?

Oh I'm just stopping by for photos! How lovely, I adore giant breeds. I lived in a city in Essex for a while and there was this guy who had FOUR leonbergers. He used to walk them all into town and sit outside Starbucks with them, educating the public when everyone approached.

My uncle has always had Newfies. His current one is 11 Smile

Here she is! Hopefully everything goes well with return visit. DS (5) was a bit subdued so as long as he settles at next visit I feel it's going to be more or less a go ahead. He fell asleep on the way there and wondered where we were. Have blotted out my eldest as he probably wouldn't thank me for posting up his photo😂

The breeder had lots of appointments yesterday back to back as lockdown measures commence today in various parts of Scotland so she wanted all families to see the puppies in person to pick themselves which would be best. They have always found that it's best to let the pup pick you.

Eldest DS took the photo in selfie mode so it's a bit shaky. Looking forward to return visit to walk the adult dogs out in the great outdoors when it's not pitch black outside 😂

She’s lovely @blowinahoolie. Good luck with everything!

My 4yo DS gets fed up of my youngest leo as he is so tall he blocks the view of the TV Grin
Although they are clumsy (bye any ornaments within tail height and anything on benches!) they are so gentle with the children. Much more gentle than my previous whizzy dogs.
Oh I forgot about them having to do a 3 point turn when trying to get out of small spaces Grin Either that or they just move furniture out of the way with the giant bum! Luckily we have a big house otherwise there would be traffic jams everywhere as they also lie in doorways constantly.

Enjoy!!!

Thanks Leonberger we are thrilled with her, all going well. The restrictions have ruined how soon we will be able to visit as buying a puppy is not likely to be classed as an essential journey. Hopefully restrictions ease by 2021🤞

It was incredibly difficult to choose. There's a couple who were travelling from Edinburgh to pick a girl from the litter, only two were left. We feel we made the right choice.

DS will hopefully warm to the dogs at next visit. The breeder vets families thoroughly before people can buy, which is reassuring for us as buyers too.

No ornaments to be seen at my house, no fancy furniture either so we should be okay. With having four DS it's been years since there's been an ornament in our living room 🤣

CarolVordermansBum you're welcomeSmile

My eldest was cuddled up with the adult Saints giving them belly rubs which they were all loving.

Gorgeous dogs!!!!

Can I ask about walks? How many miles would a St. Bernard/Bernese be happy with?

blowinahoolie · 20/11/2020 19:41

Irma they don't need too much walking. Around 2 X 30 minute walks each day once they have reached 18 months to two years old.
