Puppy vaccinations

I’m a little confused. My breeder has advised us that we don’t vaccinate till 16 weeks. Can the puppy still be socialised in this time? Does the natural immunity work up until that age? My family have a dog and I want to be able to to take the pup to meet theirs. I have been search I been the web and everything is about early vaccinations

Some breeders won’t vaccinate so that you don’t have to start the vaccination course again. Assuming you pick the puppy up at 8 weeks, you’ll have had 8 weeks of the puppy to vaccinate them. What reason have they given as to why you shouldn’t vaccinate until 16 weeks? The pups will have some immunity from their mothers at an early stage, this is why our vet wouldn’t do the second vaccination until they were at least 10 weeks old.

Socialisation isn’t just about meeting other dogs, actually that’s a relatively small part. Socialisation is about introducing them to things you will across in your life with them. Introducing them to other people. Having a lorry or tractor pass on the road. Going in the car. All things that can be done without the dog being vaccinated by carrying them but if you’ve got a medium to large breed the pup is going to get heavy if being carried everywhere at 16 weeks. If your family’s dog has up to date vaccinations (had their yearly boosters) they should be able to meet. The issue is when you go for a walk, with them in the ground, then you don’t if unvaccinated dogs have been there. You can still take them for a walk around a park but you’ll need to carry them until after the second vaccination.

No idea why she would say that other than trying to get out of paying for vaccinations.
1st vaccinations are normally at 6-8 weeks and 2nd are 2-4 weeks later. Any vet or even Google will tell you that...

Does your breed have autoimmune issues? SRMA can happen in my breed so delayed vaccinations are advised. But I waited until 12 weeks for their first vaccination then 14 weeks for his last one. In this time we had friends dogs over that were vaccinated and he visited friends gardens too.

My vet also advised that after the first jab it would be safe enough to walk on the streets but avoid areas with lots of dogs.
