submissive weeing

Our 4 month old puppy does a lot of submissive wees. She wees when we try and encourage her outside to toilet and she doesn't want to go. She wees when she greets someone who not part of the household. She wees when she sees the lead.

We have tried being incredibly positive, we have tried treats to distract her but she doesnt seem to be improving.

We are having to wash her basket daily as she will wee in it without fail when we take her out for her wee before bedtime. Then have to wash her bedding as she wees in her crate in the morning when we take her out for the first wee of the day. Apart from these trigger points she is dry and clean during the day and night.

Anyone got any suggestions on how we can overcome this?

What breed is she?

Puppies usually grow out of this.

Re meeting new people try to do this outside and ignore any weeing (guess covid is working in your favour here).

Is there are area where it is not to bad if she wees if so put the lead on her here again ignore the weeing

re taking her out of her bed for an evening wee how are you doing this?

Do remember at this age she has little control over this so telling her off, getting cross or frustratated will not make any difference. It may make it worse as the more anxious she gets the more she will wee.

We had one that did this, she once weed on a visitors shoes. She grew out of it, she definitely wasn’t doing it when she was a year old but can’t remember exactly when she stopped.

Little sweetheart, she'll get there. While she is doing it don't let her greet people she doesn't know unless she is outside.

It's a completely normal juvenile behaviour and developmental stage. Once she's gone through puberty you should notice it decreasing unless she's particularly anxious.

She's a Jack Russel. We do try to do meeting outside but we had an electrician in yesterday and everytime he walked through the room she was in she weed.

We are ignoring when she wees.

Regarding taking her out in the evening we started with calling her out of her basket but she lies/rolls on he back and wees. We have tried sitting next to her a petting her before taking her out, but I think she just knows at that time in the evening when we start moving around what is about to happen and as she is settled she doesn't want to go outside.

She was the same for day time wees but if she needs to go she seems happy to be called outside now.

Ok I was wondering what increased her anxiety in the evening, could be the dark, could be she heard fireworks outside in the dark could be she may realise she will be left.

Is she happy to be picked up or does that cause more weeing?

if you can scoop and run that may help or take her out a bit earlier.

Vet bed is amazing bedding, very easy to wash and dry. May help a bit.

We have tried picking her up.....she still wees and I am not sure the rush to get her outside helps with the anxiety....so we are now trying to be nice a calm.

Our pup loves rope toys and we have one specifically for when he goes outside for a wee. He gets it before we go out, we throw it for him to go and catch a few times and 9 times out of 10 he goes for a wee within a minute. He then comes back in for his treat. Does your pup have any favourite toys you could use to associate going out for a wee and then coming in for a treat? Smile
