We got back from work today and ddog seemed off. He's thrown up a few times (just foam with grass in) he keeps going out in the garden to throw up more. We've had about 8 emergency vet trips in the night since we got him because he's been sick for various reasons and we've paid well over £100 just for him to have an injection and throw up.

He really doesn't seem right. He's lying down and settling for a bit and then whimpering and whining which isn't like him. Just let him out again and he ate some more grass. Came back up resettled and now he's walking around whining again. No idea if he's ate something he shouldn't have or not, we don't think so but we weren't here when this started.

I don't mean to make it about money but we are so tight at the moment and I haven't got another £120 to be told he just has a bit of a bad belly. I just want to hang on until the morning but also worried something could be really wrong. I'm always overly paranoid but not sure if I'm right to be here.

@3dogsandababy

If a bird got in is it possible he's eaten some bird poo? Not sure if that would've caused his to react like this as all my dogs do is roll in it
We've both said how strange it is as there were no windows open so the bird must have got in the house when we left this morning and we've found no poo anywhere. Dog always stays downstairs but has free roam of house, he'd chased the bird into an upstairs bedroom (we assume as he doesn't ever go in there) and had got stuck behind the door. He was in there when we got home with this bird and we were baffled. Checked the whole house and there was no poo

That's strange! Maybe he has eaten some then. If you're not wanting to go to the vets then can you stay up to watch your dog and then call the emergency vets if he deteriorates? I'm a bit like you and would take him to the vets ASAP but if money's an issue and it turns out to be just a dodgy tummy. Have you tried giving him some plain cooked chicken and rice? That's what my vet suggests if my dog has a suspected poorly tummy and won't eat their food

I've just googled it and apparently some bird poo is dangerous to dogs! It might be better to get him seen before it turns into something serious...

3dogsandababy · 06/11/2020 00:58

I don't know if it works but I've attached a screenshot of what I've just read. Hope it helps x

Phoned vets and they've said to wait and ring them in morning if still bad. They said they aren't overly concerned if he's still drinking and walking and that he's probably just got an upset stomach. She said if he has eaten something he shouldn't they would of needed to see him within the first half hour or so for the injection to get it out so all we can do is keep an eye. He's lying on our bed whimpering away and I could cry for him. Dh thinks he's protesting being left alone as it was my first day back but I think this is a bit extreme! Poor thing. Sad

It could be but unlikely if you've been home hours as you being home would've settled him.
Have you checked the patch of grass your dogs been eating to make sure it is only grass? My dog has a favourite place in my garden which isn't just grass and I'm constantly chasing her out of it! 😡

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/11/2020 01:28

Oh no. Poor dog😢

Hopefully you all get some sleep & he's better in the morning.

ZaraCarmichaelshighheels · 06/11/2020 01:29

My dog used to get a lot of tummy upsets, if your dog is uncomfortable lying down his belly is probably sore, try and gently massage him there and see if that helps he may find it comforting. My vet prescribed off the shelf buscopan for my dog, but you must get the dosage from the vet. Hope your dog gets better soon.

Cauterize · 06/11/2020 01:46

Is his tummy making gurgling noises? Have you seen him poo since you got home? Is he breathing heavily/panting?

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 06/11/2020 06:10

How did you get on?

Iwantmychairback · 06/11/2020 06:30

How is he this morning?
Just to let you know about my dog who used to be similar. He was regularly sick, just bile, rarely bringing any actual food up.
Like you, we had him to the vets several times and they found nothing ‘wrong’. Then one time at the vets, we saw a young vet who suggested we try worming him monthly rather than every three months. This worked for us and ddog was very rarely sick after that.
Now, I really really wouldn’t recommend doing this without your vets knowledge, but mention it to him/her next time you see them. It was something that no other vet had even mentioned but it worked.

How is he today? They’re such a worry aren’t they.
