Old dog drinking and peeing more

Beddlington terrier is 13 years old. For the past 6-8 weeks he has been drink lots more water than usual, I'd say maybe 2 pints a day. Also he has been barking between 2-6 nights a night to be let out.
If we've one down told him to lay back down and not let him out due to going out less than an hour ago then he will pee on the floor.

A week ago he was so unsettled and pacing all night and also had blood in his pee. OH has only just managed to get him an appointment with the vets. He's had blood test and done a urine sample. Vet called yesterday and advised we need to take another sample in to be looked at again due to them finding protein and a trace of blood in the last sample.

Just wondering if anyone had been through this with older dog and what was the outcome?
I'm worried it could be diabetes or even kidney failure

I am sorry, but it does sound like kidney failure (or at least the start of it). I have had two dogs with it but they were diagnosed very late (partly me just thinking more frequent wees were just "old age" - I know better now). I have met people whose dogs have been offered treatment in earlier stages and kept going for quite a while with medication.

@mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork thank you for your reply.
Yes I'm thinking that myself unfortunately!
I've done the exact same thinking it's due to his age the frequent peeing.
Hopefully I've not left it to late!

We had this issues with an elderly dog. Some meds stopped it and he was quite happy for another year or so until old age got too much. Hope you get a good resolution for your dog.
