Greyhound or lurcher with cats?

Thinking of adding a rescue dog to the kids and cats.

I know it's down to the individual dog, but is it more likely a lazy Grey could be trained to ignore the cats, or a lurcher?

I know lots of lurchers have a ton of greyhound in them, just wondering if the greyhounds sleepiness when indoors would help at all?

I'm also looking at lots of sites and Spanish greyhounds/galgos keep coming up as cat trainable.

Any idea why they might be more amenable to training with cats?

My rescue greyhound has no interest in cats. She's a failed racer so very little prey drive. If you tell the rescue that you have cats they should be able to give you a cat friendly one

Lurcher link or greyhound gap. I've not had much to do with greyhound gap in recent years but lurcher link will know which of their dogs are not going to be a risk.

I wouldn't risk it either.

What other breeds are that chilled out once home?

Lots. But not usually terriers. Ime it's the bigger dogs that are more laid back indoors although obviously they need more outdoor exercise. Labs, retrievers, pointers, setters, boxers, Afghans, doodle types.

I had a lurcher first with our elderly cat and then with a kitten and he was great with them. Now have a super soft whippet and he and the cat are friends. They touch noses in greeting and groom each other. Whippet has caught up with squirrels a few times but doesn’t try to bite them but just puts his nose out to them like he just wants to sniff and say hello. Crazy hound.

Seems like it's either heaven or hell as a combination. The cats are both rescues aged around 10.

I think I'll pause it for now and just keep it in the back of my mind for when I have more time to make sure any dog is going to work really well for all four legged family members.

Thanks for the stories. It is really useful to hear both the good and the bad.

I have a greyhound and a lurcher both rescues.. Both are fine with cats. The greyhound has no interest in them at all even if we see other cats outside and him and the cat are friends and sleep together. If you decide to go for it find a rescue where they have dogs in foster with cats so some of the training will have already been done.
