To ask how long your dog stays outside?

When I let my dog out he does his business and comes straight back in and straight into his bed.

I always tell him to stay out a bit longer and stretch his legs but he just wants to come in.

Is this the norm? I've had him 8 years but it's only last couple of months he's been doing it. I know he's getting older now so not sure whether it's to do with that.

My dog has always loved being outside when it's windy. She'll stand and let the wind blow into her face.

She's double coated and hates the sun. She particularly likes to spend a bit of times wandering around the garden before bed, around midnight, when it's a sharp winter's night.

When she was young she wouldn't stay out in the rain, but as she's got older she's quite happy out in the rain, even sitting out there for a while.

Usually until we call him in. He likes to potter round the garden, find things to eat that he shouldn't and try to dig holes. So basically he wants to be out there and is called in when he starts being naughty!

My lurcher is weather dependent. She loves the sun so in the summer we keep the door open and she goes out to sunbathe regularly. In anything other than lovely weather she has to be forcibly pushed outdoors to do her business (to the point that she slunk off sand wet in the house during the last lot of bead weather) and then cries until we let her back in.

My springer Cross goes out in all weathers if it’s a walk or playing ball in the garden but does the backing up thing if it’s tipping it down and she deems she will wait until her walk to pee. She has amazing bladder control.
She also loves sunbathing and tries really hard to relax outside in the summer but fails every year because of buzzy insects and rabbits out in the field behind us so she sunbathes in front of a french window at the side of the house so see can’t see the bunnies..

My 11yo lurcher is a good weather dog. She’s out and back in straight away in cold, wet or windy weather. In the summer she will lay out and sunbathe until she gets too hot.

My cavalier is a bit more weather hardy but he’s only just 2yo so still likes to mess about digging and barking at the neighbours dog. He is coming in a bit quicker when it rains though. He’s not overly keen on stronger wind as it makes his ears flap about lol.

Wer struggle greatly with the transition from summer with the doors open all day to autumn with the cooler weather and rain. Our poor dogs just sit by the doors. By winter they've got used to the lack of access.

My ddog resists going outside in the morning, it's been midday or later before he avails himself of the tree (door left open) whereas after dark he loves to sit on the deck on guard for the night creatures - his enemies mr fox, mr badger and evil personified, mr owl!

@Sostenueto We have to put down a mat on Archers sunbathing spot too!

Or he just lays in the dirt 🤷‍♀️

He loves the sun and during the Summer is out there all day.
In the Winter he will go out for a little mooch around, sniff a bit, have a wee and then come back in.
