firework stress

Poor Ddog is reacting badly to all the noise. In the house I play the radio and she can snuggle under the duvet, but she can still hear the bangs. When I take her to the garden she is too terrified to toilet.

Any suggestions, or do we just need to go into survival mode for the next week or so?

It's probably too late for this year but for subsequent years you could try and desensitize Ddog to fireworks by getting her used to the sounds.
You tube have lots of socialization sounds including fireworks. You play them very low and if Ddog is fine increase the volume. Rinse and repeat

I wish they would ban them. I cant believe the idiots that move to the countryside and let them off and horses and livestock are terrified. The idiots don't realise there's a £2000 fine for letting them off near horses. See if your vet can give you some sedatives if your dogs that bad. Mine are OK with them as normally we have crow scarers and shooting near me. I feel sorry for all those home workers who are escaping to the countryside as if their dogs don't like fireworks they won't like the crow scarers.

Ours refused to go out for his evening walk when the smell of fireworks was in the air. He'd put his head under a cushion for the night Sad. We just stayed with him - never found a solution.

Someone on one of the sighthound groups I am on on Faceache recommended cutting the toes off a sock and pulling it over the dog's head like a tight fitting snood so the ears are covered. Worked miracles for her dog. Maybe worth considering?

Sighthounds have thin heads so perhaps a leg warmer for a fatter headed pooch?

Ddog2 used to be absolutely terrified of fireworks, and would hide under the bed drooling and shaking for hours. Since he's had an adaptil collar (we only use them for the parts of the year when he might be stressed) he is less frightened, and recovers much faster.

in the short term dogtv (subscription channel) is really good, you can stream 4 hour chunks of relaxation at a volume which doesn’t drown out the sound but should reassure the dog

they also have lots of desensitisation type content on there

We tried everything with our dog, thundershirt, adaptil collar, firework cd and sedatives but nothing worked. Last year the vet suggested Sileo gel and I was a bit sceptical but it worked. He wasn’t completely calm and still noticed the bangs but it was easily the most relaxed he’s been with fireworks.
