Do you think dremels really are kinder..?

I ask as I’ve just dremelled the dog’s nails, I always have my finger against the pad but today she was a bit wiggly and I ended up with my nail directly under her nail.

The vibration against my thumb nail was shockingly painful!
Honestly, horrifically painful.
So much so I could only bear a second or so before I had to reposition my hand.
The grinding stone didn’t touch my nail at any point as it was behind the dog’s nail and it’s got me wondering if it’s actually painful for the dog and it’s a case of them being stoic and not showing it.
Like when you have dogs with cancer or hip dysplasia who suddenly start showing only when it really starts getting unbearable.

I don’t have a dremel, I have a quiet USB grinder that cost me about £15 from Amazon. I tested it on my own skin and nails before getting my dog used to it and it was fine, more tickley than anything. I always hold the individual claw I’m working on firmly to minimise vibration as well.

My boy actually falls asleep while I’m doing his claws now, whereas we used to have a right palaver with him when we used to cut them. He was constantly trying to pull his paw away, so it would take one person to hold and one to cut them. Now I do them every few days, just taking a tiny bit off each time and he tends to fall asleep while I do it.

With him falling asleep, I can only assume the grinder is not at all painful or unpleasant for him.

My labrador comes willingly to get his nails done with the Dremel, he is pretty stubborn and wouldn't be near it if he had a problem with it.

They will feel the vibrations but I don't think it will be painful, although I have accidently sanded my knuckle while not paying attention and that bloody hurts!!.

My ddog loves a manicure!!

Okay, this is reassuring.
I do have fairly thin nails and even the thickest human nails won’t be comparable to dog nails I guess.
I was just shocked at how painful it was.
It was purely the vibration, the actual stone didn’t make any contact with any nail

Shouldn't be painful. What speed do you have your dremel on, also do you only keep it on the nail for a second?

I've always used dog nail clippers without issue. I only need to do due claws though as they wear down through walking.
