Goldendoodle vomiting

I took on a goldendoodle as a private rehoming a year ago.
She is 4, spayed after one litter aged two.
She's vaccinated and in good health.
She's a delight and my ASD daughter dotes on her.

I had a bad night last night and was up at 4am. She thought it was breakfast time so I gave her a small dish of her usual canned meat and a few dog biscuits on top.
When I got up again at 8am she'd been sick in around 4 places in two rooms. She has kept being sick on and off all day. Won#t touch food (I offered her some scrambled egg and plain rice at 6pm. All the solid is now long gone, we've passed the mustardy stomach juice stage and she's now bringing up water, basically.
She is looking very miserable, tail between legs and a bit shakey.
She is still drinking and is responding to a gentle stroke of her head by lifting it and cuddling in but she must be exhausted.

Do I take her to the Vets in the morning if no better?
I cant take her tonight as I'm rural and can't get kids in car.
I'm worried she's eaten poison or something (rural)
Can the vet check?

Is she a chewer? Sounds like a blockage to me if she’s not keeping water down.

Sarahlou63 · 20/10/2020 22:09

Call the emergency vet, they will come out (at a cost) if necessary. She is probably dehydrated so may need to be on a drip. Do you have a thermometer to check her temp?

52andblue · 20/10/2020 22:27

She's not a chewer no.
There is not a vet for 40miles.
I could call and see if I can get them out?

I think I didn't post clearly. She is drinking still and pee'ing normally.
But the puke coming up is now watery rather than containing solids or mustardy stomachy stuff. So not good but keeping water down?
I do have a thermometer yes. Do I need to use it rectally? (poor dog)

If she's keeping water down I'd be inclined to keep a close eye overnight and make a call to get in morning if needed. We have a golden doodle too who's now10, he's always had a slightly delicate tummy and usually we give him just water for a day then boiled rice with a bit of the cooking water and some cooked butternut squash for next couple of days. Was recommended by a vet several years ago and so far always helped.
I hope she's feeling better ver soon.

Sarahlou63 · 20/10/2020 22:45

Yes, rectally - it won't hurt. Also pinch her skin on her shoulder or neck. If it doesn't go back straight away it's a sign of dehydration. Do call a vet, they are used to out of hour calls - Mumsnet is a poor substitute for medical advice!

52andblue · 20/10/2020 22:47

thanks @confusednortherner

that is my inclination too.
I adore her, but getting a vet out would be a nightmare / impossible?
If she's not more chipper in the morning I will take her to one though.
Poor love :(

Completely understand as we are rural and 40 mins from vet too. If ddog was looking very ill I'd bundle everyone in car and go no questions asked but realise this isn't easy for everyone. If she's not improving you could call and they may give advice over phone?

moosemama · 20/10/2020 22:58

Call the vet for advice. They won’t want to push you to take her in and definitely won’t want to come out, unless it’s absolutely necessary at the moment, but should offer advice over the phone. It it was one of mine, I would want to speak to someone before deciding she doesn’t need to be seen.

52andblue · 21/10/2020 07:51

She is looking a bit brighter.
Was sick again overnight (bringing up green grass)
but is still drinking and had a long pee outside earlier.
She is seeking pats and wagged her tail, steady on her feet. less shaky
Still not touching food though so will call the Vets at 8am
(couldn't last night, we had power cut & internet outage after posting)

I take it you don’t think it could be poisoning anymore? Hope it goes ok.

52andblue · 21/10/2020 10:05

Ive no reason to think it could be except we are rural.

She has just enthusiastically taken 2 slices of chicken
Let's see if it stays down and settles her

2 more slices of chicken and a bit of porridge - she's hungry!
Tail wagging and bright eyed.

Standing down the vets :)

Oh I've been thinking of you and hoping for a improvement. 🤞 🤞

polkadotpjs · 21/10/2020 21:28

I posted the other day about my pup
Vomiting. Almost the same pattern. Vet said to starve him and ring back next morning but I took him anyway and he really peeled up after around 12 hours. I let him have a little scrambled egg as advised and he was starving and has been fine since. I'm glad that you've seen an improvement!

52andblue · 21/10/2020 21:43

A little mashed potato and a decent bit of haddock tonight.
Tired but improving.

Glad your pup is better @polkadotpjs
It's horrid when they are so sick, esp a pup!

Our dog is my ASD dd's therapy dog / best friend so she'd be extra devastated if anything happened to her
