Dog bed destroyer

Our 6 month old labradoodle is a complete bed and blanket destroyer! He chews holes in them, now we do find little circles of material around and can't see any evidence of anything in his poo, but I am concerned he'll ingest some and do himself some damage.

He doesn't chew anything that isn't 'his', he's amazing at picking out his toy amongst the kids stuff and we've managed to train him not to chew the sofa. We provide him with lots of chew toys.

He's still in a chewy phase which I'm sure will pass, but what can we give him to sleep on now that's soft whilst still keeping him safe from eating something stupid?

He's crate trained, the rest of his training is going very well and he's turning into a lovely family dog so I don't think it's a behavioural issue. I don't want to put him off his bed/blankets all together by having to stop him chewing every time I see him do it.

Any ideas gratefully received!

Have you tried using vet bed? Mine isn't a destroyer but I've heard good reviews!

We used vet bed too until our lab grew out of chewing at 18 months (sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but 18 months is normal!)

Be careful where they sleep at night and what they have access to, especially when they are getting older (just as you are becoming confident they wouldn't chew anything big), there were a handful of mornings when we came downstairs and the sofa or carpet or skirting boards or new football boots were destroyed.

The sofa was when he was just under 1 year old, I remember as it was the night before he was due to be neutered, I came downstairs to a full sofa seat disembowelled, and we had to postpone.

Oh crikey @WeAllHaveWings the sofa episode sounds fun! Fortunately ours loves his crate so he's not often left roaming the house unattended.

Thanks both for the vet bed suggestion, I'll try that. 🤞

our terrier used to eat all his beds and blankets - exactly like you've described!!
We bought him a bare plastic bed, but he slept on the sofa. He's never eaten the sofa or cushions so we've been lucky.
Now age 3 he has a soft bed again!

At that age my Dalmatian was the same. Destroyed everything we put down. Vet bed, blankets, beds. I bought him a rigid plastic bed and stick some towels in (which he wasn't interested in). He's 18 months now and we reintroduced a bed a couple of months ago and the habit seems to have been broken and he settles nicely now.
