Puppy vomiting white foam

polkadotpjs · 15/10/2020 07:18

Hi- been up since 3 with puppy being sick, with white foam- first incident looked to have a small black object like a piece of gravel in it, then just white/ cream foam since then- maybe 4 times, then nothing from 5-6.30 but then he's just vomited again, more foam
He doesn't want his breakfast or scrambled egg i made him, is wagging his tail and doesn't seem in distress apart form when the vomiting happens. Vets or wait for a couple of hours? He's drinking water, just not eating. Help! He's always eating, or tryng to eat crap off the floor, but I'm not aware of anything ingested unless by stealth while out walking. He's 20 weeks. Conflicting advice online, so my head is a bit mashed

Sounds like it could be a blockage. I would say vet.

wetotter · 15/10/2020 07:27

With a puppy, ring the vet.

They can dehydrate really quite quickly so glad he's drinking. May well be something and nothing, especially if there's a D&V bug going round in your area (vet likely to know if that's the case).

I had this a couple of times with my puppy who’s now 6 months old. I took her to the vet who gave her an anti sickness injection then she was fine again.

Thanks. Hopefully not a blockage. My poor baby

I rang the vets and the vet nurse consulted vet and He says there's a bug going round and it's likely that. Starve him today and little water and go tomorrow if no better and he'll see him. Let's see....Confused

There are lots of bugs going around. September and October always seem the worst time for this. But as others have said puppies can go downhill fast.

I know they said wait but don't hesitate to phone them back for any deterioration (really surprised they didn't at least want to check him over).

Eckhart · 15/10/2020 08:47

If your head is mashed and this turns out bad, you will never forgive yourself for not taking him to the vet. It's probably nothing but put your mind at rest.

Bergerdog · 15/10/2020 09:05

Sounds like kennel cough to me but I still would want such a young puppy checked today!

polkadotpjs · 15/10/2020 09:35

He looks a little forlorn but still tail wagging and pootling about. Went to his food dish and sniffed but came I'll keep an eye on him

Clicked too soon. Came away from food bowl. I'm keeping very close eye on him.

I'm not happy. He's shaking now. Can't get through to vets.

Oh no poor baby id take him to the vets but keep ringing from the car

Mrsjayy · 15/10/2020 11:29

obviously if you have hands free

BiteyShark · 15/10/2020 11:33

Are they part of a branch of vets?. If so I would be tempted to phone the nearest one to your current one to be seen.

If they are a single independent then keep trying on the phone.

Seeing them unwell is horrible but hopefully he just needs something to settle him and it's not anything more.

Coffeewithmyoxyg3n · 15/10/2020 11:54

Not to worry you but my puppy had very similar and unfortunately died last week from what the vet said was just a normal stomach bug that goes around each year. He started being sick in the Tuesday morning, took him to the vets Wednesday as he started having diarrhea and still not himself, sickness started again so went back Thursday and they said it's just a bug going round and gave him an anti sickness shot and antibiotics and took him home. He appeared to perk up and his temp had dropped a bit and then when I checked him in the night he had passed away in his sleep within 3 hours of me checking him.

So please please do not hesitate to take your dpup in if you are uncertain in anyway. Our vet was so confident he would perk back up and be fine that we trusted them and now are all heartbroken

polkadotpjs · 15/10/2020 12:02

He's now jumped out of bed and wagging tail and hoovering up crumbs off floor. They offered me an appointment reluctantly later this aft but were very much making me aware I'd be taking one their emergency slots and they're full.

That's dreadful I'm so sorry. What was it. Did you find out?

OP posts:
BiteyShark · 15/10/2020 12:09

OP I have had to rush my pup many times over the past years and I have never been made to feel bad about filling an emergency appointment.

I would consider swopping vets after this.

polkadotpjs · 15/10/2020 12:12

I didn't think it would be like trying to get a GP appointment...I'm so conflicted but I'm going to go and if he's fine then great

I have been a frequent flyer at my vets. Some visits have turned out to be nothing much and some have been serious. It's private care which you pay for and tbh I have never had any problems getting an appointment and they would squeeze me in for possible urgent stuff even when they were really busy and running late.

I wouldn't be happy about being made to feel bad about wanting an appointment as dogs can't tell us what is wrong. For example my dog was vomiting and we all put it down to his known stomach condition but 24 hours later he was in as an emergency as he had a blockage from eating stuff he shouldn't. You just can't tell unless they get examined etc.

HartnellAvenue · 15/10/2020 12:19

I wouldn't be very happy if my vets has that attitude. Is there another one you can take him to nearby?

polkadotpjs · 15/10/2020 12:20

I remember that from the puppy survival thread i think which is why I'd rather be sure. What was the thing that started the additions checks and found the blockage? I just want to stand my ground. I'm really anxious and quite shy in these situations and though had dogs through to age 21, am new to puppies

OP posts:
Mrsjayy · 15/10/2020 12:26

Just take him and don't even acknowledge its an "emergency" appointment because frankly your little dog is ill and you are paying for a service.

Mrsjayy · 15/10/2020 12:31

I think Biteyshark is right if you are not happy change your vets.
