Inside dog toilet ideas

Hi just wondered if anyone has ever had or made a robust, minimal smell & relatively easy to clean indoor space for dog to toilet? Don't want to use puppy pads as they get chewed.

For context I have a rescue dog who is currently very anxious and refuses to toilet outside. The outside world is a very daunting and overwhelming place for my little one just now and that's stopping all progress with housetraining. She will 💩 outside but that's it. It doesn't matter how long we stay outside for she will hold her bladder till we come in.

Hmm I would have gone for puppy pads.

Can you put them in a huge shallow plastic tray and put the lid on. But still lots of holes in the lid to make it like a drain cover, so dog can pee and it drains into the puppy pads but dog can’t get at them to chew. Easy for you to open and dispose of the pads and clean.
Or if you have a shower tray - could they be trained to pee in there. Easy for you to hose down and spray with disinfectant?

There are fake grass litter tray like devices popular for dogs living in apartments, could you get one of those?

Where is she weeing indoors at the moment. In sight of you or out of sight and on what surface?

You need a large container like the base of a litter tray but much bigger.

I recommend that you put two diferrent surfaces in it. This will start to help the dog get used to weeing out doors.

Does you dog have a preference at the moment? They usually prefer soft services. But there are always some who prefer concrete!

So I would put turf/grass at one end and soil at the other end. You must pick up poo each time it is used so smell should not be too much of an issue. Soil obviously can be changed regularly.

Once they are using this regularly you may find putting a similar container in a small or sheltered area outside may help her feel more confident.

Just had a look on Amazon - they sell various indoor dog toilet ideas. Dog litter trays was my ‘google’. Never knew they existed !!

Do you have mainly grass? My Dad’s, female dog will not wee on grass at all. Buy some lovely scratchy pebbles and put some Ona cat litter tray by the back door and an area outside? My (male) dog loved wrestling on pebbles and was gutted when I changed the garden!

Sorry. Advert got in the way!

There a Facebook group Dog Training Advice and Support that may provide help long term.

Bless you for helping a rescue dog.

Paddling pool? Line it with fake grass so dog gets used to the sensation?

Personally I would not train a dog to toilet inside. My rescue was the same terrified of everything. Its hard work but I got him to go outside.
