Fleece dog coats

On the back of a previous thread about coats I remembered that last year I wanted a coat that covered my dogs under belly. I have been looking at both the Weatherbeeta zip up fleece coat and also the Equifleece options. I can't quite see from photographs if they both cover a similar amount of tummy though. Does anyone have either coat and could let me know what they think of them please as there's quite a price difference?

I have an equafleece and love it. Brilliant coat which covers most of her tummy but she can still wee.

I've just looked at the other ones and it's hard to tell how much tummy is covered but they don't look as snug a fit especially round the tummy and look like they sag down a bit. Maybe not an issue if you have a tall dog but would be no good for my stumpy one.

Equafleece have very good customer service as well. They did a custom alteration for me to make the legs shorter at no charge even though it cost them to post it to me for the 2nd time.

Mine has an Equafleece suit and Equafleece jumpers and they cover the stomach they also wash very well , dry quickly and are not at all restrictive for the dog to wear . Equafleece will put a zip in the all in one suit if you need one to get your dog in and out ( I don’t ) .

BadDucks · 09/10/2020 14:01

Ddog has an eqafleece all in one type that goes over his back legs too so his stomach is completely covered. To be honest he hates wearing it but to be fair he’s a lurcher and getting his long legs in as a bit of a task!

BadDucks · 09/10/2020 14:02

Oh I just read the last post I didn’t know you could get a zip put in!!

Mydogsnotfat · 09/10/2020 16:03

Thanks everyone, it seems equafleece with a zip is the way to go as he is stumpy and it's a long way down to get those paws in!

If your read the equafleece website they recommend trying without a zip first if I remember correctly, because must people are surprised that they don't need one!

I really must buy one. My dog is a rescue qnd I have no idea which size she needs, must contact them!

JacobReesMogadishu · 09/10/2020 16:17

My equafleece doesn't have a zip and I must admit if I buy another I'd get a zip. It seems to have lost it's stretch as it's got older....the fleece. Though the dog has also lost her bendiness as she's got older and she huffs at me when I bend her legs up to get them in and out the leg holes.

A different option is the Ruffwear Fernie Fleece - it covers the underneath and zips up the side.
My dog is very cosy in hers when it is really cold - it has fleece on the inside and "knitted" on the outside.
Expensive but nice :)
Oh - you do have to put their little paws in, a bit like the Equafleece I think.

Floralnomad · 09/10/2020 17:16

If I recall correctly you can also send old equafleece jumpers back to have zips in if when your dog gets older he’s less flexible and can’t get in without one . I’ve no idea how much it costs but probably less than trying to buy a new coat that is as good and they do last well . Our dogs oldest equafleece jumper is 9 yrs old and still looks great .

RedRiverHog · 09/10/2020 21:18

I have the weatherbeeta one. It definitely isn't a tight fit but I prefer that as my old girl doesn't like anything too close fitting. It's easy to get on and off and covers most of her stomach. I've never had an equafleece so can't compare them.

FippertyGibbett · 10/10/2020 07:44

I have three Equafleeces, love them. Easy to wash and dry, keep their colour.
Rain never gets through. I have never tried another dog coat as I’ve never needed to !

ImAncient · 12/10/2020 22:29

We have 3 equafleece- I have a cream Lhasa so mud just sticks in the winter. With the equafleece just need to clean her paws. Wouldn’t be without it. Haven’t needed a zip.

Helenluvsrob · 13/10/2020 09:06

How close fit are Equafleece meant to be ?

Got one that I measured for but can’t get over his head ( he has a skinny neck ! They do t ask you about head size 😂)

JacobReesMogadishu · 13/10/2020 19:16

Snug. I do have to tug it over her head, she kind of pops out of it once it goes over the widest bit of her head. 😁

DonttouchthatLarry · 13/10/2020 20:15

Ours have Equafleece suits - upgraded them from the jumpers. They aren't cheap but are worth it.

whitianga · 13/10/2020 20:20

New to dog ownership. I have a springer spaniel pup (8 months), does he need a coat in winter or is it just for less furry dogs? He gets soaked out on walks from puddles and long grass but i just towel dry him when we get back to the car/home.

Floralnomad · 13/10/2020 20:52

@whitianga he probably doesn’t need a coat , I have my terrier clipped short and he would probably still be ok without a coat (SE England) but it just makes my life so much easier sticking him in a suit or jumper if he’s going to be wallowing in puddles / mud twice a day .
