Large dog harness for a dog that pulls

Dodgydreamer · 04/10/2020 13:46

Can anyone recommend a good harness for a big chunky monkey that pulls when excited? The one I've got has started to rub his shoulder hair.

We are working on the pulling but it's a work in progress and don't want to end up with a bald, or worse, sore doggo.

Perfect Fit is excellent. Front ring will really help you with control.

Thank you DeadCertain, I'll look into those

Lidl have some good pet stuff on!! Got 2 harnesses for a tenner each. Think bigger sizes were 15...

Harness lead:

Ours pulls a lot less, and can't dig front feet in and back out of it as he can with normal harness like Julius K9 etc.

On Amazon UK here:

I was going to say perfect fit as well. We also have tried lots of different head harnesses as our dog became unsafe for me to walk as he is stronger than me. We eventually decided that he tolerates the halti best as he does not pull very often and it is quite loose when he is not pulling.

MrsShelton · 04/10/2020 16:36

we us a Halti on our Lab.

stopped it instantly, was really surprised. it was recommended by our vet. i got the lead to go with it too. youtube has some good videos on how to use

Canny collars are good for pullers. I walk a rottie on one and can guide her with my little finger. Pop her on a regular collar and lead and she pulls like a train!

Our puppy has outgrown her harness already - are these adjustable ? Ideally don't want to be buying a new one every few weeks

EerieSilence · 04/10/2020 19:34

We use the martingale collar and prefer it to harness. Our puppy is growing like mad and most harnesses are only adjustable to a certain extent and also restrict their should movement. A martingale collar with a shock absorbable leash is what works for us.

Another vote for Perfect Fit..worth every penny. If you use the D ring at the front with a double ended lead you have much better control to train your dog, and the hardness really doesn't rub :)

@notapizzaeater
The Perfect Fit harness comes in three pieces and you can change the size of each of those three pieces as necessary.

The best harnesses out there are SASS harnesses google them. They are made to measure. It's easy to measure up your dog they have a guide to help. No plastic clips if you have a strong dog plastic clips snap. I have malamutes they are strong I don't trust any shop bought ones. You also can pay a bit more and get it padded. You will want the tracking harness which is for walking. They have a fast turnaround plus a good choice of colours. They also do bungee leashes and collars. For any strong good quality harness for big dogs look for the handmade sled dog ones they are far superior.
