Flea treatment

I've just visited the vets for more flea treatment for my large breed dog.

They gave us chews instead of drops this time.

I just got the invoice home and realised it was £60 for 3 months worth.

I can't remember exactly how much we paid last time but I don't think it was that much.

Does everyone pay that much for flea treatment!? Is there a cheaper alternative?

It was the nexgard spectra.

Thanks

That's a lot!

Very expensive... I have small dogs with long hair... mine get bathed with plenty of conditioner as well as brushed regular grooming spray. That seems to keep them at bay.

I also use Indorex for bedding (always wash at 60°C) and other areas where they sleep.

Chewabale sounds like it's Bravecto. Very convenient and very effective, unfortunately contraindicated by our dog's epilepsy.

Flea/tick and wormer treatments are usually priced to encourage you to sign up for the vet's pet health club on direct debit. At ours it's £15/month and that includes flea and wormer treatments, plus a discount on prescription costs, treatments, and an annual check-up. It can be more cost effective than insurance, depending on your attitude to risk and where you sit on the pet-furbaby spectrum.

I am also £15 per month per dog (Labs). That covers Nexguard plus the 3 monthly lungworm or whatever isn’t covered , includes annual boosters, discount on Kennel cough, food etc plus 2 semi-annual check ups.
I think I get good value from the plan.

Hi if you have a large dog it costs more. Ask your vet if its available and cheaper on prescription. Then get a prescription for it and buy it online. I get mine on prescription and order elsewhere.

I get my Nexguard Spectra online - its so much cheaper - the vet charges a small fee for the prescription but gives it to me for 2 repeats. The good thing about the Nexguard Spectra is that it covers ticks aswell.
