Tell me about your Labradors please what is your experience? Are they really as bad as people make out?

They are greediest bastards known to man, and can end up poisoning themselves accidentally because of this. Can accidentally bite because of this too.

They moult like crazy, it's actually insane. Your will need a new vacuum. My dyson used to smell of dog as basically I only needed to hoover for the dog hair.

They are solid as anything, this can have it's pros and cons depending on how robust your children are.

Other than that, simple lovely dogs.

Labradors are awesome. They make fantastic family pets. They are intelligent (in a dumb way), biddable, food orientated (which makes training easier) and gentle. They do have a long puppy period and are very bouncy for at least 2 years. Our lab is going on 7 now but still has periods of bonkers behaviour.

Our lab has never stolen food or chewed stuff up although I know of other lab owners who do have this problem. But then I know other breed owners who have this problem too so it's not breed specific.

Labs love swimming and walking and tennis balls as well as food and human company.

We have a furminator and could stuff cushions with the amount of fur she sheds. For a short coated breed they generate so much fur it is amazing. I strongly recommend a good vacuum cleaner which can pick up dog hair OP, you will need it!

I never tire of posting photos of my "gorgeous girl" so here is one of her as a puppy on the day she came home to us at 8 weeks.

I'm surprised this video hasn't been posted yet. It's a golden retriever in the video but could easily be a lab! They really love their food Grin

This is my (for now) beautiful lab when I'm cooking. Laser focus on food. Otherwise, she's an angel. She was in guide dog training, failed (too wimpy, runs when big male dogs are around) and will soon become a therapy dog. She is still very puppy like at 2 1/2. And the hair. Is. Insane.

Just be aware that you have to work with the dog you’ve got and all are different!

We have done so much training, I thought 1 week at puppy school would be enough but no. We then had weeks and weeks of one to one training then another month of a personal trainer and now we go to weekly gun dog sessions and I spend hours in the week training!!

Loose lead waking is still a bit crap and he’s a strong dog. Recall great unless there’s something to chase (some have strong prey drives, hard to train this away).
I have trained a good ‘leave’ command but left unattended he chewed everything in sight; headphones, remote control, at least ten pairs of my shoes, the skirting boards....

He ate socks and my underwear...

He thinks every person and every dog is his best friend. I wish he’d ignore other dogs. Again hard to train this out of them. I agree with the poster that says it’s mainly time. Of course do the training but I think they eventually just settle down.

My friend has a black female lab though and hasn’t done any training and she pootles along by her side! No issues whatsoever.
Whilst I’ve done a year of constant training!

Love him though!
