Hello. Looking for a border collie and cane across this breeder. I'm so terrified of making a wrong choice in this minefield of puppy farming and dodgy sites.

It's four lane farm Derbyshire and they also do an agility club looking at websites

Has anyone any experience please?

'Thank you

@whenwillthemadnessend
Hi Came across this post then realised that I have never joined mum's net. We are in the same predicament regarding the purchase of a Collie. Not considering until Oct 22 but just wondered if you actually found somewhere you were happy with as it's a mine field out there.
Thanks
Alison

In the end we got a cross lab from a home
Breeder. She was experienced in labs but a small operator. I just went by gut feeling in the end and it worked for us.
It is scary tho!!!

Hi I have my boy from here.

We have had no end of issues. We love him dearly but I think as the person above stated regarding nervousness etc, he is EXTREMELY nervous/reactive/fearful and it has resulted in aggression towards us.

We have tried behaviourists/trainers/vet visits and there is nothing physically wrong with him but he was poorly socialised during his time at Four Lane Ends.

We now have him on anti-anxiety meds as it was the only way to get him to calm down in the house. A sudden movement would cause him to launch himself at you if he deemed it threatening. He is now much better on his medication and it has allowed us to build a bond and train him without fear. We hope to be able to ween him off medication eventually but we take it day by day so far.

Therefore, I would probably avoid. They do always have dogs for sale on there and Domino has some very odd triggers that I can't wrap my head around sometimes, that must be from the farm e.g. bin man lorry.

Hope this helps.

@ririconway that is sad to hear. We got our girl from there last October and she is awesome, even though she was the most nervous looking of the litter. Fine with bin men, cars, even fireworks. She has hot adolescence now though 😳 Let the fun begin!
I hope your boy settles soon. It must be heartbreaking ❤️

In regards to Four End Lane Farm..Yes they are licenced breeders they have about 200 dogs of their own and they have just recently advertised that they want to get rid of 11 female collies as they are retiring...what about the rest. Make up your own minds..

They pretty much always have puppies for sale on pets4homes.
I’d avoid like the plague.
Partly because they are clearly show type and I feel strongly working breeds should be retained as working dogs (I have a working collie) but mostly because no decent breeder would have so many litters constantly for sale

To be fair show type collies are bred according to breed standard and working collies are not...more rangy and lngrt backed and legs .

Some of us don't have transport so for me it's got to be within walking distance. Rescue centres want you to visit the dog 2/3 times which for me is not feasible. It's a 3 hour round trip for me to go to the "local" shopping centre so to go 20/30 miles to a rescue centre wouldn't be possible I'm afraid.
