After losing our beloved dog in July we have been offered the chance of a puppy the first week of October (will be 8 weeks) however we have flights to see my in laws in Spain 2 weeks later. We haven’t seen them since Xmas due to pandemic and also we will be celebrating my daughters 16th while we are there. What shall I do about pup. Breeder can’t help, will I have to end up staying home? Anyone else had this issue

We had our puppy a couple of weeks late due to a holiday, in hindsight you only get those socialization weeks once and he has a few gaps as by the time he had all vaccinations it was rushed. Tricky but holidays always possible in future.

House sitter? bet some would love having a puppy. I love having a house sitter ive only ever had fantastic experiences and the animals feel safe in their home - fantasitc!

Got to say that we have loads of animals so it is also a much cheaper option

Trouble is with a house sitter they need to be 100% on things like socialisation, toilet training, learning how to prevent separation anxiety etc. 10-12 weeks (and up to 16) is SUCH an important time to get pup properly socialised and used to things. You can’t expect a house sitter to do that.

Think that’s the best option op, you want the pup as young as you can get (-after 8 week) so you’re the one training it, someone else doing it or hanging onto him might make things more difficult when you do get him/her home. And you’ll have this for 10 plus years so it’s not great missing out on a holiday but there will hopefully be many more when your dog is trained and happy and you’ve found good care for him or her whilst you’re away. It’s v exciting op, we get our pup end of October

No, it's difficult or even impossible to do both. We were invited to my cousin's wedding a month after getting our pup, which meant a night away. I went to the wedding, my husband stayed with the dog.
