Have a 5yr old lab cross, great dog, well socialised, loves other dogs , have recently moved as DH has fully retired and we are considering rescuing a greyhound ( foreign country, many hunting dogs abandoned).
So can anyone tell me the positives and negatives of getting a 2nd dog if you already have a well settled ddog ? TIA

I have 2 after 6 years of only 1

The only negative is it's double the cost

There is no other negatives for me. I will never go back to just 1 dog.

I look after four dogs that live together. They get on fine. The good thing is they don’t tend to run off individually as they stay together when I take them off.
There is one that is definitely in charge but she is the biggest and the oldest. And she is definitely the mum of them all.
You still get to see their individual personalities. We make sure we give each one attention.
Good point is they don’t get upset when they are left as they have each other.
The place they live is huge though so that helps as they have space.
Yes they fight but they generally get along fine.

But. I’m aware this may not work out for everyone with multiple dogs. It could have easily have gone the other way.
