Emergency vets this morning

Worried sick, I posted the other day that my girl wasn't eating. I had no replies , not fussed as I then found other threads with tips.
Last night she was very sleepy and I had to hand feed her.
Got an emergency vets appointment this morning. It's totally not her.
She is drinking and going to the toilet with normal poos .
Just need calming down. 1st time dog owner and she's my world.

If it makes you feel any better.. mine cost me (hoping insurance will cover it!) £850 in sedated examination... for a sprain! tbf the vets were worried she'd torn her cruciate, but no, just a regular sprain from running round like a loon. A few days painkillers and rest and she was back to normal..
She's my first dog too, and I worry much more about her than I ever did my kids Grin She can't see her best friend for two weeks as he's just been neutered and I'm now worrying because she looks depressed....

Little update .
Day 3 of antibiotics, very traumatic for both of us. I hate having to hold her still and she hates the squirt down her ear. She shakes and hides away from me ☹️
Still sleeping a lot and picking at her food but tried to jump onto the work top for pizza last night so that's encouraging 😂🙄
Noticed she's lost a lot of weight , needed to tighten her collar.
If she doesn't pick up with her appetite I may take her back to the vets next week after the full 7 days of antibiotics, or should I give it a bit longer? It's been 5 days off food already.

If she isn't eating then its fine to get in touch with the vet again

petalpower · 30/07/2020 16:39

Does your vets do phone consultations? If so it might be worth phoning to put your mind at rest.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 30/07/2020 16:49

I will give them a ring tomorrow, closed now.
Her breakfast is still in the kitchen. She's had about 3 mouthfuls. No snacks or treats as I want her to eat .
I've omitted kibble in case that was the problem. It's Harrington's pate stuff which she normally loves

Will add she's lay in the back garden chewing on a deer leg 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hope you’re able to speak to the vet today and your lovely sag is getting better.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 31/07/2020 11:34

Sorry forgot to update .
Spoke to the vet this morning, because she is eating little bits often (ish) going to the toilet as normal they aren't too worried atm?
She's more active today and ate half her breakfast and ran off with a piece of bread ( after I speak to vets 🙄).
They told me to keep an eye on her over the weekend and if still concerned bring her back next week. At least they didn't charge me for the phone call.
Day 4 of antibiotics and I have a new form of attack. Get her when she's asleep. Evil doggie owner

OP posts:
petalpower · 31/07/2020 11:42

That’s good news. Good that they didn’t charge you too!

nicky7654 · 31/07/2020 11:49

Ear infections are very painful, no wonder your dog wasn't very happy. My two get ear infections a lot and now the vet have sold me a bottle of steroids for flair up and a bottle of ear lotion. Don't feel silly your the perfect parent xx

drinkingwineoutofamug · 31/07/2020 11:57

They are good vets @petalpower . The vet himself is crap with human interaction but fantastic with the animals. He listened to what I had to say so I'm happy I'm doing my best.
She's hiding from the sun atm, a black dog in 29c heat doesn't mix

OP posts:
petalpower · 31/07/2020 12:12

My little black puppy is on the cool kitchen floor too.
I’d rather a vet was brilliant with animals than good at human interaction.

Roselilly36 · 31/07/2020 12:18

Our dog used to suffer ear infections repeatedly, we used to slightly melt small cubes of cheese and stick the tablet inside, took them no trouble, squirting the liquid in his ear & then trying to massage it was another story, never found an easy way to do that! I can remember the struggle, they definitely don’t like it. I hope your dog is better soon.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 31/07/2020 12:42

It doesn't help that she rolls in the grass rubbing her head against what ever rank channel number 5 doggie version she finds 🤢😡
Hence that is how I think she got it 🙄
She on my bed in the cool breeze having a pre lunch snooze. I'm off to sit in the sun and do some research for my final assignment ( student nurse) .
Thank you everyone and enjoy your weekend

Hope you all had a good weekend. Happy to report she has inhaled her breakfast and cleared the bowl. Antibiotics have finished. I have my daft dog back. Just need to explain to her now that she can't climb trees ....

petalpower · 03/08/2020 11:31

That’s good news!

RonaldMcDonaldio · 03/08/2020 11:48

Excellent update, glad to hear it! Smile

My 7 month old puppy had a busy day yesterday - he normally runs around like a loon regardless, but at one point yesterday he was floppy and lethargic. He fell into such a deep sleep that neither of us could see him breathing, we thought he was dead.

Within an hour he was racing around oinking the grunty pig and annoying the shit out of us again. I think he's fine!

doodleygirl · 03/08/2020 15:28

Glad to hear she is back to normal, they really do scare the shit out of us!
