Plaque off

Anyone use it and find that their dog doesn't want to eat his food with it on?

BiteyDog has rubbish teeth despite brushing everyday and vet recommended adding plaque off. Picked a piece of food out of his bowl and spat it out. Waited and eventually had to threw it away and gave him exactly the same food without it on and he gulped it down Sad.

I have to mix it into a little smelly wet food. Currently using Chappie Original, purely because we have a stock in after losing ddog2. I think it would have to be something stinky, so basically, any fish based wet food.

Fwiw, it has made a big difference to my lad’s teeth. Last vet visit his teeth weren’t great, not the worst, but being a Lurcher he has a tendency to build plaque really quickly. Since he’s been on the Plaque Off I’ve been able to ping off all the plaque that was there and any new stuff is soft and easily brushed away with a microfibre finger brush. Just been for his annual check up today and the vet was really pleased with him. He’s almost 15 and the vet said the majority of Greys and Lurchers they see have lost at least a couple of teeth by that age, but he doesn’t even need a dental. He has a tiny bit of gum erosion right at the very back where it’s nigh on to impossible to reach in a pointyhound’s mouth, but nothing to worry about.

Dentisept is also great for controlling the bacteria that causes the plaque. We use it on alternate days, because it’s vanilla scented for some unknown reason and he really doesn’t like it. I think it’s the combination of the Plaque Off and Dentisept together that has sorted his teeth out. You literally just stick it on a cloth finger brush or even your finger and rub it all over their teeth and gums.

We currently use relatively stinky wet food so I was hoping he would just eat it Sad

We have had food battles in the past hence switching to wet from kibble so need to decide whether it's worth it or just accept a scale and polish will be needed in the future.

If he won’t have the Plaque Off, give Dentisept a go. It’s what vets recommend and should help control the bacteria and reduce the amount of build up.

I also have a dental scraper (bought of Amazon) that I use to very gently scrape the top layer of the plaque, which helps break it down before brushing. You have to be really careful not to scrape any enamel though.

Larger bits of thick plaque can be pinged off. You just need to get a fingernail under an edge. It’s very satisfying, as there’s a lovely pearly white under all that concrete like stuff! My old vet showed me how to do it, but it’s actually really simple, you just lever it off.
