We might have to do this. The hotel accepts dogs. Just wondering how people found it.

We ddog on holiday once with her crate, she cried every 40 minutes or so. She ended sleeping in bed with DH 😂

I looked for a pub with rooms 'out back' as I knew then it would be easy to take him in and out for toiletting etc.

Quite a few pubs do that kind of thing - a block of rooms built behind the pub that are rented out. e.g. The Oak Tree in Thirsk.

We stayed overnight in a lovely pub last year that was dog friendly. Mind you it was an ancient old building and our room was in the attic so it was a traipse down two flights of stairs to take him outside for a wee but we managed. They let us have him with us in the bar for breakfast but we had to leave him in the car for dinner as we were given a table in the main restaurant where dogs weren’t allowed. As long as you book everything in advance you’ll be fine.

He came with us on holiday last year too. We left him in the cottage for a couple of afternoons and he was fine. Tv on low, lots of toys and nibbles and he was no trouble. Mind you I do trust him.

Yes several times. We always take her own bed and she settles fine. I've always made sure she's had a good walk before bed.

Yes a few times.
I would never leave her alone in the room though.
She does bark at people passing the door, so I ask for a room at the end of the corridor if possible and I arrive late and leave early.
I put her water bowl in the bathroom in case it gets spilt.
I take a fleece to put on the bed as she normally sleeps at the foot of my bed at home.
Other than that it's fine.

DH took me to the Walnut Tree in Abergavenny for a birthday meal and booked one of their cottages next door for the night so we could bring DDog. It was really lovely - dog bed all set out ready for him, with the fire on, and treats/dog food for his breakfast. He's desperate to go again.

Loads of times. Have stayed in hotels with ddog in the Lakes District, Edinburgh, France, Germany (where they spoilt him rotten and refused to charge the dog fee because he was such a good dog),Belgium and Spain.
It can be a pain in the morning because you have to get dressed and take them out early instead of just putting them in the garden but that’s the only negative.
Our ddog loves his hotel holidays.

www.hopetounarms.co.uk/en-GB/homepage Stayed here last August in the Scottish borders. Fab welcome for humans and canines alike. We had a family suite and daftoldpupper started off in the hallway in his crate as per usual but "magically" appeared to have migrated to the child's bedroom overnight.

Thanks all.

@Potionqueen where is your dog’s bed from please?

This is all very heartening. We are bringing DDog on his firat hotel stay this week. It's a garden room with French doors so we should not have bother getting him in and out. I never thought about footsteps above us. Hoping he will be OK. Its great to hear there's so many places we can take him

Potionqueen · 10/07/2020 10:09

@Hyperfish101 we got his bed from B&M. It was £25. He’s got a few dog beds scattered about the house but this is his favourite.

When we did this our dog was young but reliably housetrained. We went into our room and he promptly weed in the middle of the floor. Presumably he smelled a previous dog guest.
