Anyone know what this is? From googling I’m thinking ring worm but it’s hard to say because of how different it can look on each dog.

So this showed up a couple days ago, I’ve been in touch with the vet and I can’t get there until Saturday. I’m keeping him somewhat isolated because I have a kid with a suppressed immune system and I don’t want her catching it if it is contagious. If anyone has any idea what it could be so I don’t go mad with the disinfectant that would be great. Obviously I’m not replying on anyone here to diagnose but just some idea until Saturday. It’s under his chin area, so when you lift up his head that’s where it is. Thanks.

Could it be a 'hotspot'? They can be quite sore and nasty looking!

I thought ringworm was more scaly and dry looking than that ( we had a guinea pig with it before) and it generally doesn’t itch . Can the vet not advise by video / photo .

That looks like wet eczema, my dog used to get them.

Hot spots

It's a hotspot. Basically a moist dermatitis

Clip fur, bathe with warm salt water - use a gauze or cloth or give it a decent scrub and lift off the crusting. It will likely bleed a bit. You can put a bit of sudocrem on it. Then let it heal exposed to the air, bathing daily with salt water.

Usually occur on skin that is regularly licked or drooled on or in folds of skin.

I’d never heard of hot spots until this. The vet did mention it too. They didn’t suggest sending a picture in and I didn’t think to ask either. Will clean it with salt water and hope that helps. I’m trying not to pet him and it feels awful because he’s so used to hugs but I don’t want to risk it being something contagious and making my daughter unwell. I’m still going to take him to the vet on Saturday though, even if it turns out to be something simple at least I’ll know.

It really doesn't look like ringworm op so don't panic too much,

Clipping the fur back to leave a clear margin was key to treating my old fella's hot spots.

Looks like a hotspot to me as well, you want to shave it if you can and then keep it clean and dry... if you’ve got something like hibiscrub to clean it with that’d work.

Hotspots aren’t contagious though, just slightly gross, lol
