Summer dog walking shoes - what do you have?

I've looked through old threads but the last one on dog walking footwear seems to be 5 years old! So, here I am

With the hot weather I'm struggling to do our usual 3-6 mile daily walk in my Karrimor. I've got some worn down Converse that I am using to death but before I replace I thought I'd check for any suggestions? We do a mix of woodland walking, field walking and beach.

I’ve got fitflop sandals. They are absolutely monstrous to look at but incredibly practical.

I have to agree with skechers. Any of their shoes I've had I've loved and I know my dad who is a serious hill walker and has all the best gear also wears them for lightweight travelling and eaay 10k or less days

I tried flip-flops on one walk and it rained right at the end. I slipped around like I was an ice skater and swore never again

Sorry Linda, just looked at the link and realise those are sandals! Not as fugly as some walking sandals I've seen and look much less likely to rub...

Nike flyknit. Anything sturdy from Mand s trainers range that’s cheap and comfortable. Lots of lightweight walking shoes in the sales right now. Waterproof and breathable but lightweight are all over the countywear shops at half price. Take your pick.

I'm a dog walker as well and I live in them in the summer months. if they get wet they dry super-quickly which is really positive.

I wouldn't recommend go walk at all for walking in the woods. I do love mine and they are comfy but I think you can feel every stone underfoot so only wear mine on soft ground

I am envious you can all where such light shoes to walk dogs.

I need to wear walking shoes - I found Merrell walking shoes are light enough for summer but still with a sturdy sole and a bit of heel support.

OMG where = wear hides head in shame

Skechers all the way. And you can put them in the washing machine.

Walking boots - all year round. I just enjoy them not being wet in the summer

Damp days - a pair of Merrell waterproof trainers
Cool but dry days - converse
Hot dry days - sports sandals for any distance, otherwise whatever I have on my feet already

The waterproof trainers are amazing. Style and beauty they are not, but they are comfortable and warm enough to wear into the autumn and then again in the spring.

@ButOneMistressHere I am with you on that Summer means not wearing waterproof socks everyday.

What sort of ground are you walking in to walk in sandals? I would worry about the rocks, adders and tics in our area.

Just me that wears wellies 12 months of the year then...

Thank you for starting this thread OP. I was only thinking about this this morning when prizing my hot feet out of my walking boots. I have found some bargain Merrell trainers online now though thanks for the recommendations, they look great. I love Skechers but have tried dog walking in them before and got half way across a stony wheat field and had to turn back, encounter a lot of brambles (and cow poo!) too so footwear has to be robust.

I still mostly wear my winter walking boots because of walking through all the cow/horse and deer poo.

However, if I know the walk won't be covered in animal poo I have some merrell water shoes that are really cool and grippy.

If you are after something more sturdy than Sketchers, I have Mindel Walking Boots that I use for hiking/ trekking. (I have wide feet and they are perfect!) They are light weight, waterproof, have a Goretex layer and I wear them all year round without getting sweaty feet... But they can be pricey at £200 +. It feels a bit of a luxury for just dog walking.

Skechers go walk lite.. I live in them and have different pairs for work and dog walking!

Deck shoes. Nice and sturdy. Reasonable sole for stony tracks. Look ok with jeans or shorts.

I have Skechers go walk as well, although I mainly use a mobility scooter for longer walks nowadays so not really a balanced opinion! Worn them for years though and always found them comfy.
