We are due to collect our pug puppy next weekend!

We've had a film sent to us of the puppy in training and performing a few tricks and at 14 weeks she is perfect.

However we noticed the daughter in the film calling the puppy by a name we would not choose,

My 10 year old is distraught as she has chosen her own name for the dog,

Will it be ok to rename the puppy once we get her or is that a no no as it will upset the dog?

Any advice appreciated x

Haven’t you read the threads on MN where people change their minds about their human children’s names well after birth??
This is far less egregious

You don't sound like you have a clue about dogs!

Eg the puppy is being removed from its mother, family, owners and home, everything it is familiar with - the name change is not the thing it will be worried/scared about!

Bless you for worrying - dog won’t care at all!

I kept my dog’s name given by the breeder. I wouldn’t have chosen it but I don’t regret keeping it. Her family loved and adored him and her kids called him it so I kept it.

Puppy will respond to his new name chosen by DD. Don't worry about it. Even rehomed adult dogs will learn their new name

Our dog had a litter and we named them all just for clarity. We didn't expect the owners to keep those names. Fatso, wouldn't have gone down well!

All my animals have had a KC/ pedigree names. They're definitely not intended to be everyday names as they are really quite ridiculous. If your dog isn't KC then it will have been assigned a name so that breeder could identify it. You can definitely name it what you want.

We've had several dogs [and cats] who have ALL ended up with different names once their characteristics are known ! No problem!

DPuppy came home at 12+ weeks and transitioned from her litter name to her day to day name with no difficulty whatsoever
