Possible cancer

My dog is an elderly lady. She's been having some troubles and has had a scan and a few vet visits followed by a couple of rounds of antibiotics and now on permanent painkillers (galliprant)
The scan was inconclusive. They said the funnel bit of her bladder simply wasn't there and that it was hard to tell if there was any kind of Tumor or not.
But they said at her age more invasive investigations wouldn't be much use to her as treatments would be limited. Also that galliprant would help keep her going fine with or without bladder cancer.
I'm happy monitoring her food and water intake and exercise etc but obviously I'm a bit worried about all this.
Another effect is that despite having a gentle bath she is smelling really offensive I feel bad even typing that but it's very strong. Sort of old urine/ roast beef monster munch. The vet knows.
I'm very anxious about all this and what doesn't help is that my 'partner' has decided he loathes dogs and the smell is driving him up the wall.
I'm worried about all of this ☹️

So sorry to hear about your girl. But it sounds like your vet is being sensible about treatment. Bless her, you just want her to be comfortable and feel secure in her later life.

Not much advise with respect to dealing with the smell, other than maybe some air spray ( essential oils in water , sprayed into the air).
Your partner sounds delightful. Let’s hope he doesn’t start dribbling, smelling, etc when he gets old. Personally I would be looking hard at a person who has so little compassion, but you don’t need that right now.

Oh he won't be my problem by that point believe me.
To say this house is going through the mill would be an understatement.
My collie is 13 and I've had her 12 years. I adore her. And I'd defend her to my last breath but I've just been downstairs and to say to him that the smell isn't that bad would be a bare faced lie lol.
She hasn't had any accidents but it smells like it. Bless her 💔

I am sorry your girl is not well and that your partner is being unsympathetic.
This per deodorant spray maybe useful in helping with the smell. Just don't get it on a hard floor surface it turns it into a skating rink.

With bowel problems her farts may smell really bad, my young dog who has IBD has similar issues.

I don't necessarily think invasive tests are in the best interests of the dog but have you considered getting a second opinion from a specialist? Not necessarily with a view to doing operations or chemo, but just to see if symptoms like the smell can be treated? There is a very good cancer unit at Liverpool.

She's been given some different stronger antibiotics but if she's not improving after 3 days they are going to scan her again. The vet was quite astounded by the fragrance bless her lol.
