What do I need for new pup?

After waiting for over a year we will finally be bringing a puppy home from our breeder at the start of June.

So far I have
Crate and bed/blankets to go inside
Crate bottle
Puppy pads (live in a flat)
Same food as the breeder
Clicker
Toys
Training treats (same ones the breeder will use)
Toothbrush
Claw clippers
Coat brush
Lifetime policy (petplan classic+)
Lead, harness and tag

What other things do you think I have missed that we will need? There will probably be obvious things I have forgotten about.

Not sure if it's been already mentioned but I've found it a game changer is those little poo bag dispensers that you attach to the lead!
Such a simple idea but honestly it's made such a difference!
No more hunting for bags/finding them in every pocket/forgetting them!
I bulk buy rolls of Beco bags which are in rolls that you just pop in the dispenser.

If you are ever likely to take the dog anywhere by car, you’ll need a way to keep her safe in transit.

As our DPuppy is a small breed, we use a cat carrier. You might want to think about something that will let you clip harness to seat belt?

Ooh, also, you can get car-seat covers especially for dogs. Useful if the pup is car sick, which is common. I got a set for a fiver. Well worth it for the avoidance of cleaning up dog hurl from the seats!

Chew toys - way more than you think you'll need! Mine got through so many chews in the first 12 months of his life. As your pup gets older I would recommend natural chews over plastic ones as they're much safer. Mine chewed a nylabone to bits and nearly swallowed a big chunk of plastic so please don't leave him unattended with one.

Poo bags. You can get them really cheaply - we stock up whenever they're on offer. A bag of 100 probably lasted a couple of months with a puppy but they poo less as they get older Grin

How are you going to transport her in the car? We use a seatbelt clip attached to the harness so he can sit on the back seat, but if you want them to travel in the boot you might want to get a dog guard as well to keep him safe. If you let them travel on he backseat, I'd also recommend a waterproof seat cover to protect your car against all the mud and hair! The other day mine rolled in a dead sheep and he was FILTHY when he had to travel home!

I would be very wary of using puppy pads. I know you're in a flat so toilet training is going to be bit more work but all they do is encourage the dog to toilet inside, which you really don't want to encourage. Get some crocs or slip-on shoes and keep them and a waterproof jacket by the door so you can just pick up the pup and run downstairs at short notice instead.

He won’t be going in the car very often (I live in central London), but when he’s a puppy I plan on getting him used to the car, taking on short car rides etc so he is hopefully happy in the car when he does need to go in it. But I’m guessing doggy holidays are long while off Hmm

I’m going to be crating him in the car, if we for some reason do end up taking him in the car quite a bit I’ll get a crate that stays in the car or a boot divider. It’s a new civic, so a half boot size space will be big enough for him fully grown.

Good luck! I just got sent the photo of my next foster puppy, so its back to wee puddles for me too Grin

We only have one wee in the crate in the car, hes saving it all for the flat! He travelled well and is currently having a bounce around the living room.

Let the chaos begin!
