The doghouse

What do people do during the day with their dogs?

Hi,

I have DDog who is almost 1. Up until now I have worked PT - 3 hours each morning- so DDog has never really been left longer than that. He always seemed quite happy and would mainly sleep.

There is a possibility I may have to go FT in a few months times and I was wondering what people did. Obviously I would arrange care for him but I don't know if daycare is better or having someone come in the middle of the day to walk him would be better?

If we get a dog walker he would be out for about an hour which means a large chunk of the day he is on his own. Daycare is tricky because I would have to take him there before work but it is manageable.

He will probably be about 1.5 before this starts. What do others do?

If he was taken out for a couple of hours lunchtime/early afternoon then he'll be fine. That would pretty much replicate his current pattern.

Around here it’s £12 for an hour with a dog walker and £15 for daycare. We send her to daycare as it’s not much more money and it means she’s not by herself at all.

@RandomMess yes if I could find something like that it would be perfect.

@vanillandhoney I'm in NW. Near Liverpool.

Sounds like a walker in the middle of the day would work then, as it's close to what her already does. A good walker will absolutely knacker him out too, so should just collapse into a grateful sleep for the rest of the day!

Hi Keep I can't believe our pups are going to be a year old soon!!

Could you find a dog walker that would take him out for a couple of hours? Our dog walker takes our boy out for around 2 hours and he's always knackered when he comes back so sleeps for another 3 hours!!

Tbh I think our dog would find day care quite full on as he likes his routine and quiet time 😁

@Girliefriendlikespuppies I know! Although I feel like he's a tiny puppy again as he has decided to wake up for a wee every night around 3am which is not fun!

@vanillandhoney I haven't got a PM yet?
