Dog not eating

1 year old rescue is usually an absolute gannet. Refused breakfast and treats this morning and seems to be stretching a lot. Has been out for a wee and poo and has had a drink. Not vomited but did eat some grass earlier. Seems a bit subdued and lying around rather than his usual bouncy self. Shall we just let him fast and see how he goes? Any tips gratefully received.

My dog often goes off his food when it gets to warmer weather. I tempt him with homemade ice lollies to lick when really hot just to make sure he's staying hydrated when not eating much. It's due to cool down over next few days so hopefully he will feel more like eating. That said a more experienced person/vet might have other suggestions

Thanks for your reply. It's much cooler here today and he seemed to scoff his way through the recent hot weather! Keeping an eye on him, he's just had a trot around the garden but back in his bed now looking rather miserable ☹️

The stretching could indicate pain or bloat which would really concern me. What breed is he? Could he have eaten something he shouldn't have done?

He's a scruffy mixbreed rescue. Looks like a bit like a collie-poo. He does chew sticks and eat dubious things on floor when he gets the chance but doesn't go off lead for walks so we generally know what he's had. He did find a coconut shell in the garden yesterday but took it off him before he destroyed/ ate it. He's pottering about but with quite a lot of stretching and lying around. Toying with calling vet for advice but will get diverted to emergency vet on a Sunday and suspect they'll say bring him in for assessment. He gets very carsick and won't make it there without vomiting so that won't help his cause.

Check his mouth/teeth/tongue/gums to make sure nothing there has been damaged.

Managed to tempt him with a bit of wet food earlier and he had a small amount of kibble this evening. Less stretching and moping now but the farts are horrendous (1st thing I've smelt since Covid diagnosed 1 month ago 🤢).
Presume that confirms he's eaten something dubious in the garden as opposed to blockage. Am anticipating some dodgy poos to come - not seen any yet. Bloody dog - at least DC can tell you what's wrong with them!

Thanks for asking, he's eating again and thankfully slightly less flatulent!
I was waiting for a poo-nami but seems to be relatively normal in that department. He's still doing the downward dog stretching thing more than usual so think he might still be a bit sore but he's on a light diet and had a walk today so 🤞he's on the mend. I found a Pro-kolin tube in the cupboard so gave him some of that too.
