Recall suddenly gone

Have my adorable springer nearly 2 yrs - she is 4. From the get go she was really eager to please and great at recall. Help - in the ladt week its faded to practically zero to the extent that on our previously much needed free runnning areas of our daily walk, i now have to leash her - absolutely no reaction to my calling like a loon. It will be so frustrating to have to confine her to leash but I don’t know what else to do - any wise words or insight welcome please

Can you play more mind games with her at home, really strengthen her view of you as the source of fun? It might transfer to out on a walk.

Recall is a skill you never stop training. All it takes is a couple of times where she recalls and gets admonished or doesn't see the benefit/reward and it disappears.

Same problem here, we’ve been using a secure dog field since lockdown began as it was ridiculous trying to walk a dog reactive to runners and cyclists around our very popular canal path. Earlier this week we took her back to our previous favourite walk a short drive away, let her off and lockdown has clearly been good to the skylarks
She spent half an hour chasing them completely ignoring us. Eventually stopped for a rest and it still took us a while to get her back on the lead. Today I put her back on the longline. Hopefully it will be better when all the spring animals calm down a bit

We’re going through the same thing. Our pup is 8 months old so I believe it’s to be expected at this age, feeling deflated at having to dust off the long line though.

Yaaaay - thanks so much - you hit the nail on the head - had been v cross with her a couple of times I had to go fetch her. So today I set out with a pocketful of kibble and we built up recall again using loads of praise and treats. Bless her she was wary of me at first - which broke my heart but just proved the point. Lovely walk - thank you so much for your insight! By the way it was my fault i was originally so cross - mum in nursing home and I cannot visit.
