Rage syndrome

This isn't about my dogs.

A family member was attacked, last week by one of their dogs. A 12 month old. They also own her sister. The wounds required medical attention and some stitches.

The vet diagnosed rage syndrome and the dog was put to sleep. It did sound like rage syndrome. I am not an expert on Rage syndrome, but it sound similar to experiences I have read online.

They contacted the breeder to let them know. The breeder couldn't have given less of a shit.

Does anyone know if the breeder has any responsibilities, as it thought to be genetic, or does anyone know if this will impact the sibling.

I did Google but couldn't find much.

Many thanks

What breed?

The breeder does not have any responsibilities.

General behavioural traits can be genetic or environmental

It is nearly impossible to totally identify rage syndrome -there are millions of reasons for aggression in dogs

the vet didn't think it was general behaviour because the absence described.

And I agree it definitely could be environmental.

I would have just thought a responsible breeder would want to know because of the possibility of it being genetic.

Its bulldog. Not sure exactly which type. They contacted me as I have several different spaniels and they read it use to be referee to cocker rage.

I know about it, but having never experienced it, I don't know about diagnosis and if any further steps should be taken.

Thank you for responding.

What were the circumstances surrounding the bite?

jinxpixie · 23/04/2020 13:34

Absence?

Windyatthebeach · 23/04/2020 13:39

Surely a reputable breeder would not have sold her 2 litter mates?

My thoughts exactly.

What were the circumstances surrounding the bite?

the dog was in the garden. With the other dog and relative. Dogs just wandering about relative just sat on a garden chair. Dog went stiff, then went for my relative, dog managed to pierce skin on legs and arms. Before stopping then looking woosey and confused and immediately lying down on the grass and a bit of whimpering.

I wasn't there, this is what I was told.

jinxpixie yes that's how the relative described it. Like an absence siezure. Like the dog he knew wasn't there. Nothing was distracting her or making her stop.

Don't start me on the 2 puppy things. When they told me, I spoke to them and told them it was a bad idea and decent breeder wouldn't let them go together.

His partner wasn't having any of what I said. Because 'my friend got 2 and they are fine'. Its definitely not something I support.
