Lead walking

Hi hoping for some advice on lead walking. My 11wk old pup will not walk on the lead. I've tried collar, harness, letting her drag the lead behind but as soon as it's in my hand she lies down and refuses to walk.

She will walk happily off lead alongside my other ddog but obviously near roads etc this isn't safe. I've had a few dogs over the years and never had this problem!

Any advice?

My puppy is either loopy or zonked out. I don’t think they have a middle speed! Grin

Dogs are great. But puppies are hard work.
Kids leave home eventually right? Grin

I was under the impression it was important to desensitise puppies with leads and get them used to the concept long before you have to lead walk. We've got all our stuff ready for the garden, well aware we can't actually 'walk' her for quite some time. Breeder has informed me that our pup was the one that ran off down the drive today when all the others got nervous and came back so looks like we're in for some fun times Grin

To be honest I suppose ive been lucky in the past regarding leads, most of my dogs have just 'walked' if you know what I mean. Also years ago where I live it wasn't as populated as it is now.

When I was younger my mums house was surrounded by fields. At the time we had a lab/collie and she would regularly take herself off down to the local town for a walk haha.

@midnightstar66 exciting times! When do you pick up dpup Smile.

@Wolfiefan haha yes definitely eventually! Smile

@hopeforlucky3
Or whichever name you're deciding to use....
It might help if you weren't so incredibly rude to people giving you reasonable advice.

Your pup is too young to have a full immune response to vaccines so if she had her first jab at 6 weeks (out of interest why so young?) then she should have repeat jabs at around 9 and 12 weeks. It's unlikely 2 jabs will be effective at such s young age.

You also seem to be sock puppetting which is against MN rules

As you're not a novice dog owner I'd expect you to be able to deal with basics like lead walking, but the fact you can't suggests to me you're struggling with understanding effective socialisation generally (which is incredibly important in a puppy that's been separated so early from its mother and siblings) and then criticising the people you've asked for advice when they actually give you advice Hmm

@Veterinari I apologised to @Wolfiefan, yes I was quick to jump the gun but I read the post in the wrong context, human error.

Why so young did I get her? I got her from someone who was advertising them as being 8 weeks, when I got to the house it was apparent it was a puppy farm/backyard breeder with puppies of different ages. I felt bad so took her (I know I should have walked away but I didn't) and she's here to stay.

She was chipped at 6wk first jab at 7wk.

What do you mean sock puppeting? As I stated earlier I have just never experienced a dog not willing to "walk" alongside other dogs, just my experience. I have thanked pps for their input.
