Is it OK to take a dog into the toilet somewhere muddy like an RSPB nature reserve

I know this is probably a weird question but I'm a first time dog owner.

I would never take my dog into the loos somewhere nice obviously, but there is an RSPB nature reserve I would like to visit on my own, on foot. It's too far away for me to not need the loo while I'm there. I won't have a car with me and wouldn't feel secure leaving her on her own outside the loo.

My dog would be on a leash and she wears a muzzle.

I have done in similar situations.

There was nowhere to tie him up outside and I was on my own and needed a wee!

Needs must...

WisestIsShe · 16/01/2020 19:47

That sounds ok to me.

CreekIsRising · 16/01/2020 19:50

I wouldn't take a pet dog to a bird reserve anyway.

Runkle · 16/01/2020 19:52

I've done it a few times. Even rested toilet roll on his back once!

Clymene · 16/01/2020 20:00

I do. And I take my dog to reserves all the time. He is always on the lead if he's likely to disturb wildlife Smile

74NewStreet · 16/01/2020 20:02

I wouldn’t take a dog there either.

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 16/01/2020 20:03

Dogs aren’t usually allowed in nature reserves?

Gabrielknight · 16/01/2020 20:04

Check your actually allowed a dog. Many rspb reserves don't actually let you as the disturb the birds. I'd never actually take my dog to one even if they they allows dogs

bobstersmum · 16/01/2020 20:04

The one nearest to me doesn't allow dogs.

Wolfiefan · 16/01/2020 20:07

Yep I wouldn’t take a dog either.

Formermousemat · 16/01/2020 20:39

Thank you everyone.

I checked and this one does allow dogs but only if they stay on a lead at all times. Will have a think about it though.

Our local nature reserve is ridiculously popular with dog walkers.

itstrue · 16/01/2020 21:19

I'd never leave my dog tied up outside the toilets in case someone stole her! She always comes with me or I wait until I get home.

Motorina · 16/01/2020 22:20

I will do this as a matter of routine. In a small cubicle, negotiating the three of us round the door can be tricky, and someone likes to try and raid the tampon bin. But otherwise all good. I figure if my muddy shoes are going in, then dog paws won’t do any harm.

XXcstatic · 17/01/2020 19:33

I do, though I would put my head round the door before taking her in, to check there are no small children who might be scared by her.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/01/2020 19:50

I would if it was accessed from outside, not from within the visitor centre. Our local one has both. It also has a 'dog friendly' route - I guess they've realised that among their million or so members they've doubtless got a lot of dog owners.

(The only other type of pet I've seen there was the bloke who had a tame duck ... seriously, he had it in the hide. Grin)

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 17/01/2020 21:15

I've taken the dog into toilets before now. Needs must - if I'm with someone I'll get them to hold DDog, but otherwise he comes into the cubicle with me.

FenellaMaxwell · 17/01/2020 21:18

Our local place that allows dogs allows them in the shop, cafe, loos..... I wouldn’t even think twice about it!
