Bloody weather. Tricks to prevent my house becoming a Tough Mudder course?

Hi all

I’ve got a 14 week old lab who LOVES mud, water and general filth and unfortunately for me (but brilliant for him) there is LOTS of it about at the moment. My back garden is a quagmire and even if I stuck to walking him on pavements there is still a lot of wet leaves and muck about the place that he manages to get covered in.

Dogs get lucky and wet. I accept that. How best can I prevent my house and car from becoming filthy mudholes during these boggy wet months, until spring shows it’s face? Currently I’m wiping his feet/legs/belly with a towel when he gets in but it isn’t very useful and he seems to still be filthy.

I thought about a putting the hose on low and giving him a quick wash off when we got in but he’s scared of it, plus I think it’s a bit chilly. Though he happily wades into muddy streams and deep puddles without a backward glance, so perhaps it isn’t the temp.

How does everyone else manage the relentless mud during wet winters?

No tips - reading this to get some - but my dog has taken to digging at the moment and comes in covered head to tail in mud. Driving me mad but I can't help laughing at him either as he looks so pleased with himself! He's just over a year old so this is the first winter he's really experienced.

I've tried hosing him (he hates it) but he also does this kind of thing when I put him out for his bedtime wee so I'm not really ready for using the hose either!

I have mud/water/muddy water loving working Cockers and another large gundog breed and they have 3 Equafleeces each. They're an absolute godsend. They didn't wear them on walks when we lived in the UK (they do here in Canada when it's -30 like it has been this last week) but for containing mud and drying them off in the car or house afterwards they are amazing. They wick moisture away from the dog but dry super fast, mud just shakes off them and they wash brilliantly - my 10 year old dog has had one of hers since she was a year old and it's still going strong. They're pretty easy to get on and off, they get used to it quickly, although you can also get sleeveless 'tankie' versions. They're not like most dog coats, they allow free movement and don't twist or move around.

I'm not a rep for them or anything Grin they're just genuinely one of the most can't-live-without products I've ever bought for the dogs.
